Same in Canada, mate. What they wouldn't do to protect the children. Its hard to tell these days because in the UK, tobacco is hidden away behind a screen.
They don't seem to have codger blends in the UK.
I like the definition, "blends that you don't need to go to a tobacconist for".
I suppose the UK equivalent would be St Bruno or Condor.

If you use the definition I gave earlier, "the blends that you don't need to go to a tobacconist for", that eliminates all bulks. Likewise, it doesn't matter what sells the most at the big e-tailers, because they are tobacconists. In the UK my guess would be; Clan, Gold Block, St Bruno, Condor, Erinmore, in that order. The first two are pretty nasty tobaccos, the latter three are excellent, and regulars in my fledgling 'rotation'.
To be honest, I have never bought any tobacco 'over the counter' in a supermarket. I have seen them once, in a supermarket in Hastings. A bloke in front of me was buying a box of fags, and I got a sneak peak at what blends they were selling. The ones I saw were Clan, Gold Block, and St Bruno. And then the shutters were quickly slammed down. That was about two years ago, so I couldn't truthfully say if they still carry them. But as you say, these are all imprecise terms, and when you start to dig about, they don't really make too much sense. If you use the definition I gave earlier, "the blends that you don't need to go to a tobacconist for", that eliminates all bulks. As you both note, and as I mentioned, what is considered a "codger blend" is really going to depend on what country you are living in. It's a very imprecise term. Sometimes one sees the term "OTC blend" to refer to those blends, but it really isn't a whole lot better.
@WerewolfOfLondon I've tried all these in my clay pipes; Special Virginia (former Mellow Virginia) would be another. I've tried that one in my clays as well!In the UK my guess would be; Clan, Gold Block, St Bruno, Condor, Erinmore, in that order.
