+1 for Boswell's.
They sell lots of aromatics; I mean...it only seems right that you stock up on Boswell's "Christmas Cookie" with the upcoming holiday season. Try Berry Cobbler also. You will be thankful and so will anyone who accompanies you during one of these smokes.
Also, Lane Limited 1-Q seems to be the quintessential beginner's aromatic. It is quite lovely.
Lastly, I smoked on and off through college, and have recently started once again. This latest experience has been a total change due in part to the knowledge from these forums. Read the posts, pickup on the advice.
Biggest recommendations that have changed my smoking experience drastically are:
1. Smoke slowly and keep the bowl as cool as possibly without constantly having to relight (you will pick up so many more flavors than smoking it hot).

2. Don't get stressed about relights, time between puffs, etc. Every tobacco/bowl/person smokes differently. Just keep trying out different ways and types, and you'll figure it out on your own.
Note: I'm nowhere near being a "good" pipe smoker. My pipes go out; I screw up the packing; and yes, I too get frustrated. But if you keep in mind to relax and enjoy the entire experience, even the failures. You will find an experience to love.

I don't smoke a lot of aromatics but when I do, I smoke Boswell's. I have the Berry Cobbler, Rasberry Cream, Christmas Cookie, Pennsylvania Dutch Treat. All have a lot of flavor in my opinion if smoked slowly. Plus the room note is killer, all my kids beg me to smoke the " sweet smelling stuff" instead of my usual va flakes and vapor flakes.

Thank you everyone for the help! The amount of feedback is awesome! I definitely think i'm smoking the bowl way too hot though. I plan to get something Boswell and just relax. The berry cobbler sounds amazing. I'll reply again after I try my first bowl.

bcirka, lol, when I wrote that I kept thinking to myself, damn that sounds familiar. Now I know where I heard it. I love those commercials and that guy. Funny thing is when I drink a dark beer which is hardly ever, it is Dos Equis XX Dark with a lime.
jakew, smoking slowly will definitely help you in tasting the blend. Also if you think you are going to stick with a pipe, I would suggest investing in a good one, it really does make a difference in being able to enjoy your tobacco. Something like this would be a real good place to start. http://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/new/mastro-de-paja/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=109561

I don't smoke many aromatics either, but when I do I get the most enjoyment from W.O. Larsen Signature Vintage Mixture, Amphora Full Aroma and, in a pinch, Lane 1Q, or Captain Black.

I find Black Kathy by Altadis to be a decent vanilla. Like others say, smoke slow, keep it cool, and relight. Also.. and I can't stress this enough... use a match and don't rush the initial light. I believe matches are cheap, but tongue bite, and/or overheated tobacco on a light can ruin my whole aro experience. I tried another Altadis this evening called Tropical Sunset.. didn't impress too much, but it was also in my small no name estate meer which is highly suspect lately. I have some C&D Autumn Evening on the way on a recommend, as well as some hearth and home aromatic samples. Will give them a mention as they are enjoyed.
