They smoke hot and taste jucky. Bought a Askwith-morta but didn't like it so I gave it away to a fellow pipesmoker.

LOL you already did I bought the Tinsky and 2 Stanwell over the last 2 weeks.
Touche Dawg, Touche. I apologize, i was just in the "Trolling Stoners" thread and caught a little contact buzz and must have forgot about your recent PAD purchases. My Tinsky should be in today which i am STOKED about to say the least. Mark told me that the tamper he made was the last one of his xmas 2013 stock and that he put that one away because it had such good grain in it. He Said that he stained it to match my pipe, so i am guessing it will bring out the grain even more because i have seen pics of the pipe and the stain is dark and really brings out the grain. He didn't get a chance to take a pic of the tamper, so i haven't seen it yet. The suspense is killing me!
Also, my Yeti that i got that killer deal on from Ebay should be here on Friday soooooooo.....i think that passes the hot potato back to you, my friend!

I have one of Paulo Becker's and it is very similar to Meerschaum as fishnbanjo said. However, as with all of Becker's pipes, there is no aroma at all. It adds no flavors to the tobacco, which is a little disconcerting for me, because I love the aroma of briar added to the burning leaf, and I had hoped for that bogginess that I have heard described. So, to me, it is just a black meer (and I don't like meers). I tend to grab my briar Becker more often than the morta. I may let it go after the sparkle of owning one wears off. Unless, I just find that one blend that makes it sing.
I had been thinking that I would save up for one of his strawberry woods, but after hearing that they have even less chance of imparting an aroma, I may just start looking at other pipes.

Cosmic, my Moretti Morta definitely imparts the peaty smokey flavor that really sets off english blends or blends with latakia and cyprian in them. I smoked Penzance in it last night for the first time after smoking it in briar exclusively before and WOW, you can really tell the difference and the added flavor from the morta. You can get a great deal on a morta from Marco, and he will probably throw in a Morta tamper with it. I have one of the Morta tampers and they are awesome. they do not show the dark spots on the bottom from tamping like other materials do due to the color.

Hahahahaha, i can't be mad at a man being honest! I need to work on that, but "disorders" basically mean "something in which to direct blame and excuses". Hence, PAD. It's science, it has to be the truth, right?
You still haven't got your Tinsky?!?!?! Damn, it's taking a little while, isn't it? I checked USPS and mine is out for delivery and is currently within miles of reaching its final destination. I'm sitting here at work counting down the minutes, lol. Next time, you need to just order it straight from the source; MARK. His communication is superb and he is VERY prompt about returning emails regarding progress of a commissioned pipe. He also ships them with 2 day priority from USPS. Mine was shipped on Monday afternoon from Montana where he lives and will be here in Virginia today. Not too shabby, i must say. I will definitely be going to him again for a custom pipe. Hope you get yours soon, brother! :puffy:

I have a couple of Mortas and agree with what Pruss said above. My favourite Morta is the billiard Chris Askwith did for me as part of a two pipe set, shown below. I highly recommend Chris if you are looking to commission one.

cosmicfolklore,

Try a VA or VA/Per in your Becker Morta and I think you'll find it imparts some flavor, if your tobacco is heavy on the Latakia it probably allows more Latakia flavor than Morta. Also not all Morta has that uber boggy flavor since not every bog is the same. I have a Dublin Strawberry Wood pipe by Paulo and you CAN taste the difference compared to a briar. I love them all.
dawg,

If Scottie sends me photos in progress on the Strawberry Eskimo I'll be sure to post them. :D
