I am usually at the computer at 5AM answering emails from customers in Europe and Asia. With the time difference, receiving and answering can be a challenge. I brew my dark roast coffee and usually start the day off with a bowl of Beck's Ol Limey Bastard. Just enough kick to get me going, but also a truly pleasurable smoke when my palate is fresh.

Lately I've found that stomping through a big bowl of Dunhill EMP is the only way to get the day going. Preferably in my Rattray's bent diplomat, if she's well rested. For some reason lately, my mornings have been English/Oriental, afternoons VA or VA/Per, and evenings back to English.

Now that the chilly fall mornings are back, I'm enjoying morning smokes again too. There's something about that 50-60 degree weather that makes me want to smoke a pipe and have a cup of tea first thing in the morning. Usually I tend to go for lighter Balkan/English blends in the morning as well. H&H BlackHouse, Blue Mountain (Balkan Blue), Frog Morton on the Bayou, EMP, and Squadron Leader are some of my favorites. Occasionally I'll be in the mood for a VA or VA/Per though. I tend to go with Christmas Cheer, Escudo, or Hal o' the Wynd on those days. A few days ago I tried Dunhill Flake and while the first third of the bowl seemed a little hot and tangy, it mellowed nicely after that and was a good smoke.

Unlikely but true, Semois is a fine morning smoke for folks who like it. I know, many don't. But

if you do...ah!

Like many others have mentioned, I prefer a milder English/Balkan in the early morning, and work my way up to the stronger blends as the day progresses. Working from home most days is a real blessing, and in the warmer months I get to work on my back screen porch, smoking all day long. :puffy:
