@LotusEater @halfdan I second that . I want to know about the tobacco jar, and the st dupont lighter. Is it a pipe lighter? I have been looking everywhere for a nice lighter with pipe flame. I have a corona old boy, and they are lovely.
There are a lot of Marzi and Remy tobacco jars out there they are cool because they have a humidification cylinder built into the lid.

The S.T DuPont is a ligne 1 BS

So not a pipe lighter and no good in the wind just cool imho.

I own 3 Meers. One a cheap CAO. Another is a inexpensive SMS. My last is my post expensive an IMP. In my opinion they all suck as they get hot in comparison to my broken in briar pipes. If you want to waste your time trying to color it like some badge of honor, have at it and have fun. I know a lot of guys who love their meers and how they color. I am also not a fan of their stems. Now take into account I am a picky psycho when it comes to stems. Most people don't have my mental disorder.
I haven't really looked into meers carefully, and that's why I thought they smoke cooler, like a clay pipe. I started out with briars, and then got myself a couple of cobs. I think I'll stick to what to I know for the time being. Thanks

I'm mostly retired and therefore have time to smoke when I wish. My morning smoke is my favorite of the day. For the past year and more, that smoke happens in an Altinay Meer. I almost always smoke a reasonably mild, sweet straight Virginia such as Vauen No 14, Sir John's Flake Virginia, Capstan Gold, Weesex Gold Virginia Flake or MB HH Pure Virginia. I almost always accompany that smoke with coffee or Earl Gray tea. That first smoke is such an ingrained and enjoyable part of my daily routine, you probably wouldn't want to be around me were I deprived of that pleasure for some reason.

If you didn't puff like a freaking freight train, your Meers might not get so hot. LOL

Thanks for the reply and the recommendations on the Virginias. I am not experienced enough to start smoking Virginias, I think. I still draw too much when I smoke, and I have to tame my cadence as well. I think that Virginias will pair well with tea, maybe even a maltier brew like Assam.

The way to get experienced is to smoke them. It really isn't that big of a deal. Presently, you're depriving yourself of the most enjoyable genre of pipe blends made. Jump in and get your feet wet.

I smoke several Meers and have zero issue with any of them smoking hot. Cake builds in Meers just like it does in briar pipes.

Once you finish a bowl, how do you clean it? I will give it another shot and maybe the stem won't piss me off like it does now.
Here is a pick of my IMP with Silver.

Small pipes can be harder to keep lit. For a quick smoke I would use a regular pipe but only fill it half way. puffy

@Andim AND, adding on to what Searock said, you could just fill a regular pipe, smoke what you want, and just come back to it later, because tabac sitting in the pipe for a long period of time, especially overnight changes, and you might find you like the difference. ;)

Your IMP is gorgeous.

I wipe my meers out with a paper towel, after every smoke. A layer of cake does nothing for a meer and some people say it is detrimental. If a cake starts to build, I dampen the paper towel and wipe it out.

That's me - I'm sure there will be those who avidly disagree, and as long as they don't tell me I'm stupid, I won't respond in kind :)

Weekend mornings, I get up early to enjoy some quiet time alone with a pipe and bottomless cup of coffee.

I read the forum and a book while watching the critters and neighborhood come to life. Sometimes I just contemplate life.

Typically, I enjoy a vanilla based tobacco first (1-Q, Arrowhead, Vanilla Roll Cake), but lately it's been burley (Cube Cut or Half and Half).
