I'm on a little quest right now to find another 'morning blend' as a staple pairing with that first cup of coffee. In this last year I have really enjoyed the following: Peretti 52, 333 and Thanksgiving Day; We Three Kings; Voodoo Queen; and my Bayou Veermaster (60% Bayou Morning / 40% Hamborger). Bob's Chocolate Flake has also been good, but prefer that as a last pipe usually and tends to be a longer smoke for me. Various vapers are fine (such as Match Victorian) but haven't grabbed hold " 'till the tin runs out" for first bowl of the day. I am tending toward lightly aromatic VaBurs, with a richness and slightly sweet fruit or chocolate notes, at a medium-low nic level.
I have a pouch of KBV Burley Morning Pipe standing by, but want to see what I can make out of my already open selections before opening something new or opening more of the already known. Currently sniffing at Edgeworth RR Match (smells like grapenuts or bran cereal to me atm), and Stormfront, perhaps blending them with something... Anyway. Interested to know what 'Go To' favorites for starting the day folks have, and particular flavor characteristics that make them so.

I open a tin of Virginia Flake 3 to 5 days before I am ready to start smoking it. Let's it breath and dry a bit. I prefer fold and stuff for my flakes, I rarely rub out except with Gawith blends because they're so wet. My flakes often end up dry enough they kind of crack and crumble when I fold and stuff. That's pretty much ideal for easy smoking and flavor. If the flake is very pliable, it's not dry enough to smoke, at least for my preferences. For first in the morning, I recommend Aylesbury Sir John's Flake Virginia, Wessex Gold Virginia Flake, Capstan Yellow Flake or RR, MB Virginia Flake and HH Pure Virginia and Hamborger Veermeister.

My morning smoke is whatever I pull from the cabinet on a given day. One day it might be an aromatic, another day and English blend, and another might be a Virginia. Just depends on my mood. Some of my go to blends are Dunhill - Early Morning Pipe, Samuel Gawith - Skiff Mixture, Peter Stokkebye - Balkan Supreme, Captain Black, and Lane - 1Q.
