I think this would go in this forum.
It's really funny to me because tobacco de-normalization has gotten to a point where you don't have belabor the (obviously) negative health affects anymore, you just have to mention the smoking rates. Apparently, one of our lifesyle choices is part of an epidemic as if we all had home labs where we assembled super flu viruses. Sh*t like this really grinds my gears.

The usual CNN tripe. The claim is that 3 billion, or roughly half of the world's population, uses tobacco. I, for one, find that to be farfetched at best and an out-and-out lie at worst.

I love the comments about how marijuana smoke is less harmful than tobacco smoke made in the comments section. And I thought anti-gun zealots were stupid. I think sometimes the anti-smoke crowd surpasses even them and that's saying something!

Haha, you made the mistake of reading the comments. Never read the comments on any internet article unless you're looking to get upset. That's my #1 internet rule. You are right though.

I know and you're absolutely right! I try not to, but sometimes I just can't help it. And sure enough it always gets my blood boiling. Luckily I'm pretty good of staying out of it. I learned that lesson years ago. :P

Haha, I'm always breaking that rule for myself too.
I should add one caveat to that rule though and that is this website/forum. I'm never sorry about reading what other members here have to say even if I disagree. I don't mind contrary opinions so long as they are sincere and well thought out.

They sound like majority of feminists, twisting facts to create a hate message. Sugary foods will likely be the next target after tobacco. Some support proposing a regulation on sugary products since they increase aging much like tobacco, among other effects.

I just saw this now...
I read through some of the comments; people can be so dumb and intolerant.
Juvat, I love how some people think smoking tobacco causes cancer but smoking marijuana is miraculous health cure - a gift from above.
The inhalation of smoke will probably cause problems over many years no matter what way you slice it. It's funny how some people can be so ignorant and hypocritical when they think they are in the right...

This type of thing really gets my blood boiling. The simple fact that regardless of the risks people still want to do it.

Which they should as long has it has no effect on other people which is easy to do.
There are many other things that cause health problems yet they are ignored petrol/diesel fumes for example lets see these anti-smoking drivers suck a tail pipe for 20 seconds and see how healthy it is.

Then there are all the other risk taking drinking, eating too much, using guns, fireworks, building any type of fire, mountain climbing, jumping out of planes, swimming, messing around in boats, walking across practically any road... i know i'm preaching to the quire but if i don't type this somewhere i'm gonna burst :)
Oh the other thing as well, Smokers drain the healthcare system, WHAT? How much of our taxes (in the UK at least) go into the NHS?

These people need a slap.
One thing that must happen though before it is too late is somehow pipe smokers and cigar smokers need to somehow spread the word that there is a world of difference between the manufactured nicotine addicts death stick and the tasting of tobacco as a form of relaxation.
To me it is like the difference between someone who goes out and has a few beers and the raging alcoholic who lives for nothing but drink.
