Time to revive the thread. Doing some research into a Mont Blanc pipe I found this thread. Avid fountain pen user/collector/restorer here. I recently acquired my own 149 and absolutely love it.

A fine fountain pen is a glorious tool. But they always make me want to draw more than write. For writing I need the grim dependability of a (shudder) ballpoint or pencil. I can have the need to write on tawdry scraps of paper with unsuitable finish before the thought leaves me altogether. For my imagined future generations of readership, ahem.

Always wanted to get myself a very nice fountain pen. I currently just have a Parker from a box set, that wasn't more than $100 if even over $50. I enjoy using it to create nice, vintage looking labels for the jars in my pipe rack. I would love a really nice one, but probably only one as I wouldn't consider myself a collector. Maybe buying older pens and restoring them could be fun, but something I didn't put a ton of money into. I also like the idea of using one for my pipe journal I plan to start once I tool the cover for the journal and get the paper inside.

I have a MB146 with a medium nib and it is one of my smoothest writers. Mine is from 1979. I also have Aurora 88's and various Pelikans up to the baseball bat 1000. You cannot go wrong with any of these and MBs are Rolls Royces while Pelikans are Bugati's.
