I own four pipes by Olie, everyone smokes like a champ and I guarantee he puts plenty of time into each pipe he makes.

There isn't a nicer guy bigger advocate of pipe smoking past time and I don't understand sometimes why people are critical of somethings they haven't tried out.

I don't intend to bust into a forum with a bang so I just think that I would express my opinion on Olies work.

No worries. Anyone in the PipeWorld who has dealt with Ollie on any level will tell you he is a five star guy in every respect.
That said, if his creations DIDN'T create a stir/controversy/etc. whenever they were shown, he'd be the first person to be disappointed. :D

I acquired on of Olie's Monstrosity pipes in a lot I purchased recently. It was damned ugly so I stuck it in a box where my never to be smoked pipes are relegated to a life of infamy and shame. Last Friday, I hosted a Briar, Bourbon, Beer, and Brats party. I wanted a fun, unpretentious pipe and pulled out my Monstrosity. I decided to apply some oil to the previously natural briar and in the end, I decided it wasn't damned ugly, but rather damned cool. In addition, despite it's very masculine demeanor and heft, the bowl is actually on the small side -- perfect for sampling. And too top it off, it smokes GREAT!

COJ's having some fun. I'm guessing they'd sell the pipes, but don't expect to. Given an old beater, I could make one of these. I have rusty nails and odd lot hardware.

Since he's already done it, you'd get no traction, MSO. I have leftover paint and a drop cloth, but Jackson Pollock screwed me out of doing that schtick!

Something probably not realized here is I bet he turned that bowl himself. If it looks like a beater that is just cosmetic on purpose. So the price becomes more reasonable.

Thanks for confirming Dave, I assumed it was handmade and only made to look like cobbled-up bits. Perhap's COJ is just having some fun.

One odd point, the descriptor says the stem is ebonite, the specs say it is acrylic. I think Ollie does use vulcanite.
What ever happened to his podcast? It seems to have just ended.

aldecaker, oh but mine would be my very own vision and my very own hardware junk drawer, so would be entirely original, or that's my story. I think I'd price mine a little higher; I have some high quality hardware odds and ends, some of which I can't even identify so are all the better.
