Haven't dealt with mold on pipe tobacco, only cigars. And when it comes to moldy cigars, I just throw them away.

Just opened 2 8oz cans of kajun kake from the same date. One looks normal, one has a fair amount of this white stuff on the surface of all the cakes. 1000021757.jpg1000021756.jpg Mold?

What's the next move? Contact c&d or the place i purchased from? Thanks all.

Man, that is a bummer. I can’t say for sure if thats mold or not. I did have some big and burley that was about six months old that looked just like this. I tossed it cause I didn’t think it was worth taking the chance.

Mine was bulk so I didn’t consider contacting c&d but yours being from a tin that might be a good idea.

Someone on here that knows more than me may be able to give you a better idea of whether or not that is mold.

I know in the past c&d has had a mold problem but from what I understand it has all been sorted out and hasn’t been a common thing in recent times. I find it curious mine was also from c&d and about the same age.

Agree. White dusty looking stuff on Gawith Flake is common and a good sign.
On something that young.... I don't know

I would just reach out them and see what they say. Their customer service is 10/10.

There’s white sugar crystals that’s fine and good and mold is bad. Mold is a little hairy and smells bad and should rub off a bit, sugar won’t.

To me that looks like mold, but can’t call it 100%.

I have an 8oz kajun kake with a 4/27/25 date that I bought to cellar... now I'm scared. loosing 8oz would be a punch in the gut! I also had no plans on opening it.
I had actually intended on putting one of these 2 tins away unopened. I'm just glad it was the first one I opened, otherwise this would be a nasty surprise some time down the road.

I guess if it's mold and it's in there from the factory it will be bad today, tomorrow, and 5 years from now... Maybe rather than Schrodinger's cat we should call it mold in the kajun kake...

I still think that my old line about mold and plume stands. If it's mold you don't end up asking the forum, if it's plume you do. Mold smells like even if it's not bad for you, it's still disgusting and gross and not worth bothering with.
And if plume is mold it's like blue cheese mold, tasty and harmless.
