I got a couple of jars with one of those buys, but one broke in shipping, so what I could salvage went into a baggy. I have no idea what it was, but it smoked well enough!

The other jar remains unopened, a mystery yet to be explored!

I’d hesitate to use glass jars, though, mostly because I have cats...

First time I’ve seen tobacco in Mason jars, too... I wondered if it wasn’t bootleg tobacco!

After all, I was getting RP Prohibition w/o warning labels and two Ole Shenandoah blends, “Bootlegger” & “Bootlegged.”

That's why I jar everything. You'll lose re-sell value by jarring but I have no intentions of selling my tobacco anyway.
Except jarring doesn't protect against mold either. Probably increases the risk of mold spores being introduced. If you open a tin that's bad, you can potentially return it to the manufacturer for possible replacement, whereas nobody is going to replace your jar of mold. It's a gamble either way.

I had a moldy tin once and contacted the mfg. I sent a picture of the tin and the production date...no questions asked they apologized and sent me a free replacement. Worth a shot

As many have already pointed out, there's definitely a risk that you take when not buying from a retailer. I can tell you that I got some tobacco with mold on it from tobaccopipes .com. I informed them about it via email and they send me TWO packages, that they asked my permission to check for mold. The customer service team is spot on there!

Absolutely! I was surprised that it was mailed back to me! Even though it turned out that they were the distributor instead of the manufacturer it wouldn’t have taken much for them to return it to the manufacturer themselves for a replacement while sending me something that I could smoke (virtually anything!) with an explanation and a catalog or flyer showing me the products they have to offer to a potential customer.

If they had done that, then I would be a probable customer!

Tomorrow I’m expecting a parcel from their competition with several tins that I ordered, including another Balkan Slces.

The other three tins of Balkan Slices that I bought.from another smoker got held up due to circumstances (just think “Murphy’s Law”) and now he’s sending me four tins instead of three as a gracious gesture of apology for the delay. It’s in the mail & tracking indicates that it should arrive Monday.
I have yet to smoke my first pipeful! I hope I like it, because I’ll certainly have it!

It’s here! I’m enjoying it very much!

This is what the first one could have looked like!
