I keep pics when people post them, not as "evidence" but as good examples for the "is this mold or sugar crystals" questions.

Yeah, clearly no disputing that any of those samples are mold.
Too bad to hear that this has been happening for such a long time. I have some Union Square with a nice bit of age on it that I hope will be okay. I find their Virginias less sweet than I prefer so I haven't cellared too much but I took a chance on a few blends just to see how they turn out.
CW, that's for the best. The glass can be sterilized and reused but I have my doubts about the lids. I know that no amount of washing and boiling can remove the tobacco smell from them after years of cellaring so I don't know if it is possible to vanquish the mold without applying something harsh that you wouldn't want in contact with your next lot of tobacco. I just start over with new lids to get maximum resistance to corrosion and minimal contamination...
