7876A74C-FEBD-481D-9B5A-2B6C9FCF60DB.jpegGuys, I am smoking with the Houston Pipe Club right now. I brought a 2016 8oz tin of Chelsea Morning to pop and pass around. Popped the top and found mold. It’s yellowish white.

Can I remove an inch of tobacco off the top and smoke it anyway? How dangerous is this?

Thanks. We are waiting to hear from you before we proceed.

Contact C&D/ Smoking Pipes. Theyll have you return it to check the weight to confirm you haven’t smoked any and replace the tin or refund, even after its been so long. The only thing you won’t get back is the aging, but its not the end of the world. Most companies wouldnt even offer a refund 5+ years later.

Once the mold has become activated, it's all through the tobacco, whether you see it or not. I would toss it without a second thought. Tobacco molds are highly toxic to humans. You get only one set of lungs, so better take care of them.

I tossed the tin at the shop. I kept this mostly private, because the guy I bought it from was at the table. I didn’t want to make him feel bad. He wouldn’t have known.

As I dumped it out bit by bit, the mold was growing throughout the tin. It was nasty. I just hadn’t seen that before. My only prior experience was a tin that grew mold on top shortly after being opened.

This was a real let down. I’ve come to know and really like Chelsea Morning only recently. Reviews suggest to me it was even better in the old days, plus add an aged factor. I’ll look for another tin from an earlier year.

That's too bad. Chelsea Morning is my daily smoke with coffee in the morning. The aged stuff is really nice. But those older large containers can loose the seal around the bottom and or top, so you have to be very vigilant about keeping them dry and in a climate-controlled environment.

Don’t smoke it. Contact smoking pipes and get a free replacement. 8oz tin too, that stinks

No. I had about 15 moldy tins of a few different blends from back when they had the mold problem. They took care of it zero hassle so I lost nothing.

I could see if you open an aged tin and found fuzz you’d lose those years but you could probably get the tin replaced.
