Welcome aboard from central North Carolina. A late friend of mine grew up in Germany and used to put real candles on her Christmas tree and light them up. She taught German at a local college and was also an avid stamp collector, for her own collection and for others'.

Thanks again for the warm welcome, I feel very comfortable here although the sheer amount of new information, knowledge and expertise can be kind of overwhelming and intimidating, in a good way of course.
I feel like a fresh young student in the halls of the tobacco kings. bdw

I have fond memories of that, we did it as well. But we stopped once there were more kids in the family.
Can't have psyched up children playing under and around a tree with open flames all over it.
In retrospect it really was a fire hazard by itself, with wooden ornaments and plastic tinsel and what not.
Whatever, it was really nice. So much love and warmth around that tree. Ah, memories...
