I was about to pack a bowl of Bob’s Chocolate Flake for a post breakfast smoke, and on a whim mixed in some C&D Pegasus that I had in a baggie that I’ve been smoking regularly. I thought they would complement each other, with the pegasus adding more of a burley presence than the BCF has on its own and helping it burn a little easier, and the BCF adding a bit more flavor and smoothing out some of the rough edges of the pegasus. It worked well! I think next time i would add less pegasus as a 50/50 mix diluted the cocoa flavor and Va notes of the BCF a bit too much.
Do people have favorite mixes of tobaccos that they regularly use? I call it a mix rather than a blend as I would think real blending has more to it.

I always have some Burley, Dark Fired Kentucky and Perique on hand for mixing purposes. I live outside the States and whatever tobacco I get stays with me, because I don't know any pipe smokers here (I wonder if there are any anyway) and I can't sell it online (local post service prohibits shipping tobacco abroad). That leaves me with two options with the tobacco that I don't like, either dump or modify it. Recently I've discovered that 50/50 mix of Five Brothers and Mac Baren Dark Twist Roll Cake have great results.

All the time, for years now. Sometimes it is a rescue, when the Lat goes flat, or a blend is just too mild. Other times it is an inspiration where two blends seem well matched, or a condiment seems a nice variation to an already good blend. I too use the term mix, since I am not using oven, pressure, or aging. It is just mixing two more tobaccos and smoking right off or soon. Sometimes I will mix a few bowls at a time.

I have a small jar of MacBaren Virginia #1 married 50/50 with Carter Hall that is a really pleasant affair.

While I generally parfait my tobaccos. I have many discontinued blends cellered, Burly London Blend, Edgeworth, Norwood, SugerBarrel and others. I thoroughly enjoying loading my pipe 3/4 with Granger then topping off with the above and others.

From charring light until my Granger awakens, I get to enjoy and stretch my collection of well aged tobaccos.

But I absolutely love Granger tobacco. I’m mid bowl now.

An unseasonably beautiful Sunday, East Coast, USA.

Yes it is a fantastic day on the east coast (I am in NJ). Sadly we will be buried in snow in a few days. I am inspired to do some more tinkering with blend mixes. I may jar up a mixture of 75% BCF and 25% pegasus to see if that marries the flavors even more.

I enjoy Pegasus too. I’m sitting at the Jersey Shore now and on the water, at bowl’s end.

Yeah I caught the forecast.

When you get an unseasonably warm day, it’s usually a calm before the storm.

A mix I like is adding a pinch of flue cured red va to Haunted Bookshop, a rounded table spoon to 2oz. It adds just a kiss of extra sweetness to the blend.

Re making a blend, I’d be a miserable failure at it.

I have found that adding stoved Virginia and black unflavored Cavendish gives a slight, nice bit of sweetness and smooths out an otherwise slightly rough blend quite a bit. Also helps with the burn as well. A bit of latakia added to pedestrian blends introduces an element of savory, smoky tastiness. Rescued many a bowl this way. Been looking to get some quality LA perique to really jazz things up, but that bit of goodness eludes me.

I mixed some Sutliff Frosty Mint with some Hot Chocolate last night. I kid you not it was like smoking a crushed up girl scout cookie! I mean that in a good way!

Cosmic mixture= 1/2 Stokkebye Luxury Twist Flake and 1/2 Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake. A most satisfying combo. Small amount of sweet casing and small dose of perique.
Thank you, I have both, now I’m going to try a new a new mix recipe.

Here's two I've come up with on my own:

-- I add 1 part Prince Albert to 2 parts John Bull--it enhances the burley taste.

-- To Match Revelation I add 10% Perique, i.e. 9 parts Revelation, 1 part Perique. The blend already has Perique, but not enough for my taste sometimes.
