Anyone mixed a vaper with old dark fired? Im smoking a bowl of navy flake mixed 1/2 HH old dark as I type this and it is good to me! Sweet grassy with a touch of jerky. I tried old dark fired in Captain black first but wasn’t near as good.

Just wanted to discuss see if others love or hate a vaper/dark fired mix?

I have both of these and am intrigued… I have been in love with GLP Sixpence this week and this seems somewhat similar to your blend here. Hmm…

IMO (obviously): HH Old Dark Fired is good, no doubt about it. It's also a bit strong for casual "by itself" smoking. I looked at what ODF has and thought "If I bumped up the navy flake part, it would be sweeter", and it is.
I haven't tried Sixpence, but I find that 50/50 PS 400 and HH ODF it a lot like MacBaren Dark Twist without the maple overtones (which makes sense since at that point it's roughly 2/3 flue-cured virginia and 1/3 dark fired, which is pretty much what Dark Twist is). But a mix of ODF and PS 400 is quite a lot cheaper per ounce than Dark Twist, and I can add maple if I really feel the need...

This afternoon I tried it with HH Rustica Ready Rubbed instead of ODF... I'm not as fond of that.

Are you mixing by mass or by a calibrated eyeball and pinch? I’m assuming the latter since it sounds like you made these mixes for an individual bowl, but thought I’d ask since mixing is foreign to me.

Eyeballing it, to be sure. I have a stainless steel tray that I mix "about the right amount" in. These days, I'm usually close enough that there's nothing worth mentioning left over but if there is some, I put it in a jar with other odds and ends.
