I just ordered my first corncob pipes from Missouri Meerschaum!

I ordered the 'grab bag of smokable seconds', a 'Country Gentleman',

a couple of filtered bits, and a couple of Medico filters!

Since mine is considered an 'overseas' order (Greece), I guess I'll probably have to wait a little..

But I think it's worth the while!

Will share my opinion with you when they arrive!

I expect so! I can't wait for my order...

Especially the Country Gentleman, it seems so fine a pipe, both in appearance and-as I have seen on the net- as a smoker!

I have never smoked a cob, and I'm now watching videos and hints on how to treat to them, preserve them, break them in (though most say it is unnecessary) etc!

By the time I receive my order, I will be half-educated about how to smoke them and keep them...

Good move, I love my Country Gentleman Cob. Check out the Great Dane if you get the chance, it's a good smoker too.

I hope there is one in the bag!

Except for 'Freehand' and those huge pipes,

most of the others might be in the bag.

I heard there's no doubles either.

If a Great Dane comes, I will sure smoke it!

There most certainly are doubles. I got 4 straight Legends and 5 bend Legends. I'm still happy to get them, but there are plenty of "doubles" (or is the loophole that they're quadruples and quintuples, not doubles? ). I also got one huge one, a General or something, and one hardwood. One tip a buddy of mine taught me is you can use a Sharpie on the bottom of the pipe bowl to differentiate them. Good luck!

I guess I got it wrong, or sometimes they have no doubles or whatever (most of what I know about them is based on forums).

The fact that you're still happy is encouraging..

And I really don't mind the doubles- I've also read that there is a slight chance a pipe or two might be near unsmokable, so I will have the other double to smoke.

All in all, it seems like a bargain!

Did you find any unsmokable bits?

Were they in good condition?

I had 1 unsmokeable (the stem won't go in ... seems like they didn't bore properly). That said, I got 11 smokeable pipes in a grab bag that was supposed to have 10, so I am still ahead. They were basically all in good condition. The biggest problems were maybe the stems being scratched or chips out of the cob, but nothing major. I mean, I'm not smoking a cob because it's pretty. I'm more than happy. I can so easily dedicate a pipe to one blend this way. 11 pipes for the cost of a cheap briar?! Yes, please!

Thanks for the info.!

That's exactly my attitude- 10 (or 11 if I'm lucky) pipes at such a low cost are attractive!!

Will share my bag when it comes!

Best Regards :puffy:

You're living in the cradle of briar production and yet you're ordering cob seconds from america. Let's just ponder that for a moment.

Not only the cradle of briar production, but, especially here (Greece), corn cobs are not at all famous.

However, I'm attracted to them, I've read in forums and seen in videos that they are great smokers, ideal for a beginner (I've been smoking for only 1 year and a half), and... cost-effective!

I own 2 briars, the first of which I have almost ruined (there is a bitter after-taste, even though I clean my pipes frequently, running alcohol as well.) Don't want to ruin another yet!
I ordered the 'seconds' because I don't want to ruin a 'first' pipe, since I've no idea how corn cobs smoke, and I also included a 'first' Country Gent., to have a guaranteed quality at least there.
Moreover, I like 'studying' the American culture, partly due to the music I like, and because of my field of studies, and what is more American than a corn cob? :)

How true! My grandpa smoked corn cob pipes for 60+ years..... made them himself from corn from his own garden. People would buy him nice briars once in a while as presents and he would smoke them exactly once out of politeness and go right back to his cobs.

Ya, cant go wrong with a Smokin Dragon cob. They are just fantastic! He is developing a website that will launch soon that is supposed to be top notch also.
Also for MM cobs you can't go wrong(so I'm told) with the "Forever Stem" from Walker Briar Works. The old cajun and TopD swear by them. I am waiting for two of the 4 3/4 inch ones that I will have Thursday. I have heard great things about them. They come in really cool colors also.

You might enjoy reading my Corncob Primer, which offers a lot of information and advice from experienced cobbers.

90% of the time i reach for a cob. mine are bent diplomats and the one i smoke the most has had about 3lb of tobacco run through it.
i will always have a cob and when i am with the warden people see me to ask "where is your pipe?" because i walk in and out of stores with it in my mouth as i let it go outbefor going in.
