It seems to me that right on the MM web site they explain that the brim on cob bowls is a little irregular, and that this only adds to the character of the pipe. This small (tiny?) crack qualifies as an irregularity, I think. If it bothers your, put a little Elmer's Glue or pipe mud (ash and water) in there. I doubt it is a process, so smoke away.

Maybe its me but that side of the pipe, the wall looks pretty thin compared to rest of it. For being its second smoke, I would have done the same and sent a pic to them to see what they say as well.

For some reason I thought this was going to be a Carter Hall thread. puffy
I thought some crackhead got on here and was going to ask if you could use a corn cob for rocks.
Back to the original subject. I wouldn't worry about it. I've gotten cobs with way worse cracks in them and not had an issue at all. You should see my favorite one it looks like a light breeze could split it and it's been getting smoked regularly for years.

Just got a reply and they are sending a replacement. I emailed them asking for a fix idea but they took care of it. The last time I got a pipe from them that came with a loose stem, I emailed them and they sent me directions on how to fix it. I'm never that guy that expects something for free but it was cool of them to take care of it.

It’s a cob. Throw it away and get another. Then buy a briar. I like cobs, mines 5 years old. However it’s not on the level as my briar pipes. However every one should own a few cobs and a few briars . When I first started smoking a pipe I loved my cobs , and thought why would anyone spend money on a briar pipes. Flash forward a few years and I ask myself why would anyone spend money on a cob. It comes full circle.

I have extras, and Briars. I'm still fairly new and was just asking if a fix was in order or leave it alone. Had only smoked it twice. It all got straightened out.

Leave it alone.Smoke it till it won’t smoke anymore. Mine has a small crack and it doesn’t affect it. I have a briar, a 1930s Comoy with a hair line shank crack as well. They both smoke great.
