Miracle grow

I use Miracle grow sparingly. Some earthworms have made a home in my veggie beds and I'm hoping they help.
I won't use them anymore. Here's why;
"The company issued a policy in March 2006 stating that Scotts will not hire people who smoke on or off the job, and will seek to eliminate smoking in its existing work force."
The company tests its employees for nicotine and has fired people who test positive.
Regardless of the savings in health insurance costs, I can't accept the idea of a company regulating a person's behavior when off the clock.

I have a like/hate relationship with them. I've used their bagged products to fill maybe 2/3 of my raised beds and everything has been fine. There is a questionable amount of stray trash like plastic, wire, etc. in the soil that I guess is allowed per law (there's probably some underlying metaphor of our nature of trashing everything), but it has started my beds off fine which I've then worked to build on over time.
The smoking thing is odd and I see they've faced lawsuits over it. I know in my state, discriminating against smoking is a labor violation as an example so the extent in which they've been able to implement that is likely questionable beyond press statements many years ago.

I won't be using it anymore. I'm not sure it even helps my plants anyway.
As an aside, back when I was a kid (before they had calendars, otherwise I could give you a date) they used to take a cigarette periodically and put it in the dogs food to act as a wormer !
If you let any fortified w/ fertilizer organic mulch or miracle grow dry out keep you pipe or cigarette embers away from it. They make great fire material.
We are nearly drowning in "fertilizer" around here. We compost horse and cow manure and add fish from our ponds.

Horse manure makes better compost because they have a more varied diet than cows. Our cattle graze and forage mostly, but also eat corn and silage when necessary. The horses are grazers, foragers, and hay eaters.
I heard that from an Amish farmer about 25 years ago. And I've found it to be true.

Very big brother, and even if it were for fully paid health insurance fit employee reasons (which is nearly non-existent these days), testing for nicotine does not mean a smoker. Additionally, non-smoking nicotine has been shown to be have positive health benefits.

Oh joy! You should start a thread. My favorite is when people try to put out grease fires with water.
The best are the ones that use a shop vac to transfer gasoline. Atomized gas passing through an unprotected motor yields spectacular results.
Always put coffee grounds and discard veggies that not being used in my garden ,also egg shells miracle grow also helps them to.
Yeah anything I compost is fair game. Sometimes the cat doesn’t finish his tuna I throw that in too.
