Lane Limited - RLP-6
Smoker's Pride - Cherry Cavendish
Daughters & Ryan - Windsail
Cornell & Diehl - Haunted Bookshop
Peterson - Early Morning Pipe
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Kendal Dark

That oughta do it. puffy

Ya know, I tried to be all sensible picking a Virginia, a Burley, an English blend, and a dark fired blend in addition to the couple aromatics; but truth be told I haven't actually smoked any of those in months.

Aside from trying out a few samples I was sent the only blends I've actually smoked since the beginning of October have been Lane RLP-6, Smoker's Pride Cherry Cavendish, and Sutliff Rum & Maple. I've been happy smoking my pipe every day with just those three aromatics too, so I guess my real answer for the minimum I could be happy with are those three?

Minimum and maximum. Always have these plus the occasional other. For me, these are the best available and would miss any one (not in any order):

Germain's 1820 Mixture
McConnell Original Oriental
Peterson Nightcap
SG Skiff Mixture
McConnell Maduro
MB Mixture Scottish Blend
Rattray's Old Gowrie
Fribourg & Treyer Special Brown Flake
Peterson Dark Flake
Solani ABF Blend 656

Gun to head or desert Island absolute minimum:

McConnell Original Oriental
MB Mixture Scottish Blend
Rattray's Old Gowrie

A good Virginia flake, Orlik, Gawith FVF, Peterson Flake, ect or another yet to be determined flake would be enough, minimalist, or Captain Black white if I was forced on one OTC blend.

But a step up:

-A Va flake: above
-A dark fire: Gawith 1792
-An English: Commonwealth or Nightcap
-A Lakeland: Ennerdale
-An aro: Sunbear C and D

Pretty easy to run a lifetime on those.

-A basic burley (old CH, PS 702) with coffe, in a cob.
-A vaper (aged Escudo or Anniverary Kake)
-An English (not too picky here; but MF, SL, PS52 and Westminster are all good)

As a matter of fact, when the TAD virus isn’t upon me, the above is 90% of what I smoke, usually.

The one thing I personally have a problem with cellaring deeply. Is that I find I get more out of smoking a blend many times and many times in a row. It takes some times to learn what is really happening with a blend. When I jump from one blend to another I miss a lot. Or in other words I find a smaller stable of blends smoked over many months is the best way to enjoy one.

Indeed. I have to experiment with cobs and burleys, and bowls of various sizes. Also, my palate is different depending on time of day, humidity, temperature, what I last ate, what I’m drinking, and of course, it changes with time. What could’ve been an amazing smoke, is totally lackluster the next day as variables change.

Oh, and don’t forget that aging a tobacco introduces yet another huge set of variables.
