The post title says it all: Despite easy puffy, I still battle with the dreaded burned/bitten tongue. I can only conclude it's the type of tobacco I'm using, which tend to be the aromatics, like Molto Dulce. What, in your opinion, is the most mild tobacco, either aromatic or not? Thanks for reading.

Some nice mild ones are Lanes Q-1, Lanes LL-7, Altadis "Queen Anne's Revenge," Altadis "Dark Obsession,"

and PS Nougat. Right now I'm especially liking "Queen Anne's Revenge" for lighting with one match and

not needing relights (mostly, no guarantees).

Try the original Frog Morton by McClelland, English tobaccos tend to smoke cooler than Burley or Burley based aromatics. It is a good crossover from aromatics to English tobaccos, and many pipe smokers stick with it as a daily smoke, also try drinking plain water while you smoke, it may help with the tongue bite.

MacBaren Virginia #1 is the mildest tobacco with the least amount of taste I've ever had. More boring than watching your toe nails grow. However, I'm smoking Sutliff's Blue Danube and it's mild, but rather flavorful.

I'm sorta confused. Do you want mild - low-flavor - or do you want something that isn't gonna bite your tongue?
Aros tend to do that - they burn hot. You have to smoke them very slowly - or, better yet (IMHO) not at all. :P
You can have flavorful tobaccos that don't bite. But almost anything will bite if you puff it like a train.

Sparrow: Some good advice here.
But search PM threads.
As nsfisher says, Carter Hall, Prince Albert and I'll add Sir Walter Raleigh (non-aro) are good without bite.
You can also get Walnut from 4Noggins, which is excellent. I read, I think Pipestud, the other day who says Walnut reminded him of Revelation, Mr. E's tobacco.
C&D's Epiphany is about as close as you are going to get to Einstein's favorite today, in my opinion (take it for what it is worth. I smoked the original in my college days, but honestly can't remember how different Epiphany and Walnut are to Revelation). But, with Epiphany, you have to slow it up to fully enjoy what's there. And there is a lot there.
Roth mixes CH and Walnut for his Wall-Hall, 50-50, which is just really, really good and won't bite at all. Roth also says that a little CH added to a blend will cool it down. I've tried it. He's right, as usual.
I also mix a little CH with Edward G. Robinson (25% CH) and that is quite good and doesn't bite. In fact, EGR alone is very good, doesn't bite, and one of our own Jiminks' very favorites. EGR is a tobacco he saved from the trash heap of history not long ago. You can read it in the threads. It's a wonderful story of dedication to a tobacco blend that was about to become extinct!
Good advice about English blends, too, IMO.
I'd stay clear of aros in the beginning (but, there are definitely some you will want to try down the road). They do tend to burn hot until you get that slow pace going. If you think you are smoking slow, it ain't slow enough, I've found. Believe me, I know scorched tongue syndrome.
That's my 2 cents. Hope this helps. Keep on puffing. Keep on reading. Keep on learning. It is the journey that counts.

Sparrow. Personally I have a strange reaction with Burley based tobaccos. I can handle Cavendish in small amounts, but anything that's primarily Burley based (which includes a lot of aromatics) hurts my tongue and back of my throat nearly immediately. Are you sure it's a heat based issue?
Before I buy a new blend I always head online to look up contents.
This year I've really started poking around Englishes and have been amazed at the variety of flavors and how a simple addition or subtraction of an ingredient completely changes the presentation of the flavor.
Good luck friend.

It may sound counter-intuitive, but maybe you're trying to suck more out of an already mild blend than it can deliver,

which leads to irritation. The remedy is not to seek out a milder blend, but a more full flavored blend. Well, that's

just one other thing to consider. Jud and Jah76's comments resonate with me.

Carter Hall is forgiving and tasty in my humble opinion. I picked up my first tin of Three Oaks Original today, and the flavor was very nice. No bite at all. I just have to figure out how to keep it lit. I think I used 20 matches on that bowl. That said, if I have to relight that many times and don't get bitten, it has to be a pretty forgiving blend.

I discovered Roth (as usual) was correct; just a little Carter Hall mixed in my favorite aromatic takes the bite out of it. But I'm going to print up all these suggestions for future ideas. Thanks bunches!

I keep a jar of one part Half & Half and one part Lane's 1Q mixed up. It's a very mild smoke. I've never had tongue bite from either blend. Together they make a decent smoke. Although not very flavorful in the aromatic department, it still has a good tobacco taste to it.

Try some Peter Stokkebye bullseye flake are navy flake. I find this tobacco very mild and no bite, to me this is mild. This is my opinion only. I rarely ever smoke a aromatic blend, but if I do it's lane 1q.

Try some frog Morton on a log, are bayou, make sure your smoking out of a quality made pipe. Let the tobacco dry a bit on a plate if you would like might help. Also keep some aloe Vera juice as a pre and post rinse and a cold glass of water to sip. If you detect any strange feeling on your tongue like bite, stop and rinse with the aloe Vera. Try to stay away from any aromatic tobacco really for awhile. There are plenty of other nice tobacco other than aromatic that have a nice room note and are very pleasant to smoke. This is my opinion only and might not work for the next guy.

Thanks for the organized list. With all the other suggestions, I'm sure I'll come up with some interesting, safe, blends.

Dont have much bite but a coated tongue so dont taste the tobacco - I started to smoke aromatics recently - do aromatics do this?

smoked solani sweet mystery now mc clellands tastemaster chocolate but dont taste the chocolate - smells nice in the tin though.
Tried some mc clelland 3 oaks messed up my pipe with its lingering flavor - the latakia in it considered an aromatic - it was a mild tobacco though.
will stop smoking for a week to get rid of this coated tongue - not sure with which to restart - maybe carter hall - who makes that ?

the above list - what is the nicotine level in carter hall & prince albert & rest of list - read solani silver was high in nicotine ? had quite the sweats with the solani festival.
