I've been in your place a couple times Charles. Worked a couple places that started suffering. I could tell that they were destined to fold and that can have a vast array of effects on the company as well as employee moral. This in turn can cause a lot of drama in the work place as people begin to do as you are, worrying about their job. And to blame your employees for business problems is crazy.......... Would you also get the thumbs up if business was rocking and the money rolling in? Probably not.
I decided in both cases that I'd "Ride the horse till it dropped" and was one of the last people out the door at both places when they did as I thought they would and closed the doors. That being said, I was searching for a job while I still worked there, but most the time you can't find anything close to what you already have in pay and the comfort you have from working the same place for a while. Also, it's just really hard to start a new job.
Take your time, pay as little attention to the strife at work as you can and just hang in there.
And your idea to have a bowl, or two, and think about it is a good one. That's what I'd do too.
Good luck to you, I know how hard job decisions can be.............
