I hear you. Like anything, people have strong opinions, but it has worked for me with about 95% of the blends I used it on.

I get all the drying I need leaving a few bowls of a blend in a ceramic bowl. Nuking it seems unnecessary.

This has to be too simplistic. With the highest heat on record in many parts of the US (if you live here) put some tobacco on an 8x11 piece of paper and spread it out. Takes 5 minutes to dry where I live. Be sure you don't leave it out for too long or the tobacco will smoke itself before you get to it.
