I have a couple folding tables I could bring along as well. Let me know.

Definitely bring a chair. It's best to assume we won't find a table, so bringing one sounds like a fine idea. I am leaning heavily of trying to find a spot on the south side of the island, along the Strand, where we can watch the boats on the river. :)

Folding tables are good. Need someplace to put stuff down, like pipes, papers, tobacco, drinks, etc.

I'll bring along the tables for sure then. South side sounds good to me too so we can watch the boat traffic. :puffy:

Weather's supposed to be hot. It will be good to be near the water. I'll try to find shade.

I'm going to head down a bit early to claim a spot. PM me and I'll shoot you my cell in case you have trouble spotting us.

Bump.

I'm picking Sparrowhawk about 1230, so I hope to be rolling in about 1PM. Feel free to come early. Bring a chair, a hat, sunscreen, and something to drink besides your pipes and stuff.

Let's see if this time I can avoid buying a pipe so no one picks on me. Maybe I can sell a couple!

Hi Guys...unfortunately I am not going to be able to make it now. My father is coming over in the afternoon to help me fix my truck. I can't do it without him and it is the only time he has available to fix it before I leave for vacation next week. :(
Hope you guys have a great afternoon and I will catch up with you at the next get together.
Cheers. Jim

Having seen Gambit's message,I did a search. There is a charity walk/run this morning, but that's over before noon. Here's a story about it
Jim, sorry you can't make it - hope to see you next time.

Damn - I guess I needed to search more.

Damn, damn.

It's on the west end of the island, around Scott Fountain. This says the park is still open - event visitors are shuttled on.

We'll just have to be further east than I had thought - no big deal. We'll head down towards the area around Dossin Great Lakes Museum.

Gambit, I don't remember if you have my cell number - I'll PM you.

Well, it was a beautiful day on Belle Isle. Found a nice picnic table on the south side of the Strand, looking over the water. I hauled out my lawn chair. It was quite windy, so I would walk to the car to light my pipe. Had a nice bowl of PS LTF in my ancient IRC apple, and then some HotW in a Brebbia churchwarden I don't smoke very often.

Sparrowhawk had a bowl of the Hal; I think he may have been smoking it a bit too fast, because he found it "rough".

I couldn't pawn off any of the stuff I wanted to get rid of on him. (Lane 125 and Sutliff Archduke Ferdinand.)
Unfortunately nobody else could make it. We bailed around three. We'll have to try Belle Isle again.

I'm up for trying another trip to Paul's Pipe Shop next month. Need some new tobacco recommendations from Jud the Omniscient and a Cayuga short churchwarden. Among other ways to spend money.

Omniscient? Me? Surely you jest.

If you want to try new tobaccos, buying at Paul's is gonna cost you more than buying online, unless you are trying one of his house blends. And I'm really not familiar with those.

Jud, I need you to help me select a short churchwarden (preferably a Cayuga), and your advice on tobaccos.

advice on tobaccos.

You smoke Trout Stream, IIRC, which is one of the Scotty's Bulk Blend series from Pipes & Cigars. You enjoyed Dunhill London, I remember.

So - my advice is - call up P&C and talk to them. I don't smoke aros - they aren't my thing. I note they have a match to London that's a bit less expensive than the real thing. Or buy a tin of the Dunhill and jar it for a treat now and then. :puffy:
