Menthol tobacco?

Long time no see everyone =D.
Just a quick question from a coworker of mine, does anyone know of any tinned menthol pipe tobaccos? I've seen some from a random google search but they only sold them in 16oz bags :crazy:. He mentioned he used to buy some when he was younger but doesn't remember the name.

I'm willing to bet that menthol "pipe" tobacco sold in 16oz bags is really RYO tobacco relabelled to avoid the tax.

I've never seen any "menthol" pipe tobacco around. The ones you'll find with a random google search might be Cig tobacco disguised as pipe tobacco so be careful there.
On another forum I know that a member got a good burley tobacco and he somehow purchased some menthol crystals that he mixed with water and lightly sprayed onto the backy and let it marinate and dry out. Again, I didn't stick around long enough to see the outcome, but it's an idea.
The closest you may get would probably be some "mint" tobacco. I know Altadis has a "Frosty Mint" blend, but I'm not sure how good it is.
Search the tobacco review sites for "menthol" or "mint" and see what you find.

Most likely, I've never seen it on any pipe sites I've ever been on. I don't smoke cigs so I have no clue on that front =/.
I've tried searching review sites for "menthol" but not "mint" thx for the tip!

A pinch of mentholated snuff on a plain Burley or Va makes for a wonderful mentholated powerhouse (snuff in the bowl always sends me reeling, dunno why...I can handle my nic with the best of 'em, probaby placebo effect).

So does your freind actually WANT to smoke menthol pipe tobacco? Or was he just wondering if it existed? If he thinks he wants to actually smoke the stuff, you should try talking him out of it! Or tell him that there are these new menthol delivery devices that would be perfect for him. They're called CIGARETTES.

BTW metholated snuff is awesome... Probably my favorite form of tobacco after pipe, like it better than cigars.

I located a blend that is called Perfect North. It is a house blend from Strauss Tobbaconist in Florence, KY. When I opened the jar it was like a punch in the face of "I am mint tobacco!" Maybe contact them and see if they can ship you some, that's the link above.

Greenbriar comes to mind, as does Prince Albert Menthol. Neither were tinned, but pouched. They didn't last too long, for obvious reasons. The cooling effects of menthol are only realized when inhaled. Since most pipe smokers don't inhale, all the menthol did was make your tongue numb.

i make my own menthol smoke mate, very easy. fill ur bowl half full of RYO, i like to use Drum. add 2-3 drops of menthol breath freshener. fill rest of ur pipe bowl with baccy and enjoy. its excellent. The menthol is in middle and when heat from ur puff hits it, its comes tru. by the time u smoke to where u put the menthol in its dry again but obsorbed in the remainder of the baccy.

Good call cacooper,a friend of mines father was an avid pipe smoker and when he would get a cold he would buy a Pouch of Greenbriar.Had to have been 40 years ago.Don't time fly...

nsfisher this reminds me, I've been meaning to ask you: you mentioned putting a few drops of vanilla extract in your pipe on another post. Do you use same method as menthol? How do you like it? Ever use any other extracts? I enjoy your posts a lot! You seem like a guy who likes to figure things out and fix it, build it or re-purpose it!! I've always tried to do the same...

yup best ive found for homemade mixes is drum baccy. van ext, is strong so i only use one drop, unless its a huge bowl then 2. i also grow spearment leaves in summer. i pick em, dry em out and crush em up an mix em with drum. good smoke.

The only thing i can remember from long ago was cig tobacco in cans also there was,Export,Larado and i think Top had a menthol version.
