Mostly I smoke at home in my study, but pipes I have smoked in memorable locations always make me think of those places. Right now I'm smoking an orange stain bent briar with an orange stem that I smoked at Nat Sherman's pipe shop in Manhattan sampling the Nat Sherman 536 (English blend with burley) that I had just bought. In another pipe by the same carver, Jerry Perry, I smoked my first bowl of Nightcap on the front porch on a chilly autumn night. Other pipes carry other places with them. One of my cobs I smoked under a sheltered outdoor smoking area in a downpour at a hotel in New Jersey. Any strong associations with specific places where you have smoked certain pipes?

I smoked my HS Studio Blowfish in the plaza in Washington DC, my cob atop Blood Mountain on the AT, my Castello Lovat in Vero Beach at my favorite b&m, The Pipe Den, and my Gian Gamboni the first time I met my grandson Finn. So many memories, too many memories to catalog. Thanks for this thought inducing post.

My most memorable pipe smoking location is Wave Rock in Hyden Western Australia.

There is an annual alternative music festival that I visited for the first time with my wife a few years ago. You camp out for two nights while these amazing small local and international bands play music all day long.

There is also plenty of time to explore the local surroundings, so I loaded up my favourite pipe with Irish Oak and climbed to the top of Wave Rock to enjoy the views with my wife knitting next to me (something they were teaching people at the festival).

I don’t have a photo of the views, but here is a photo of Wave Rock itself. They had a DJ play music and project images onto the wave part of the rock at night.

a friend of mine decided to end his life last week. he was one of my roommates back in '93. we worked at corporate america at that time down in atlanta. i was in atlanta over last two days and heard his passing from another good friend. had nightcap in one of my peterson on my front porch when i got home tonight. took some time to remember him and good times we had. i'm sure it wasn't impulsive act. he was a very intelligent individual with a deep analytically mind. hope he is resting well.

bullet08, my condolences on your friend. To have had a friend like you remembering him means he did not live in vain.

My smoking place was behind the church as seen in the picture above.

Right there:

That spot has a migthy view of the valley, but I was smoking my Vauen Basic apple loaded with Vauen Auenland Midnight Mixture in the evening, so I didn't have a view. Not that I lament that.
