Wet/dry sandpaper or micro mesh pads, but don’t bother with anything over 2,000 grit. The reason I say that is because meerschaum dust itself is abrasive, so once you get around 1,000 -2,000 grit or so (depending on paper and wet/dry) all grits start to look the same, because the swarf particles themselves will lay down a scratch pattern in the meer. I’ve had good luck sanding to 1,000 grit dry, then 1,000 grit wet, followed by wet polishing with a paper towel or piece of wet leather. There may be better ways, but that’s the most scratch free finish I could get.
