Thinking about getting my first meer. What are the pros and cons on a screw in system delrin mortise on an Altinok and a press fit delrin mortise like on an IMP or premium SRV?

Are the main differences better draw and the ability to pass a pipe cleaner? I do take apart pipes once in awhile while I am smoking to improve the draw if needed. Is one system better for longevity than the other?

or... you can avoid those all together and go with an army or spigot.

Yeah that's my preferred, but it seemed like they are faux Army's that still use a push fit into a delrin mortise. I do love my Peterson's for that exact reason. Any suggestion on meer brands that have a true Army or spigot stem mount?

Unfortunately none of the photos seem to show the pipes disassembled.

@Said.ALTINAY makes some true army mount spigots. Barling has a few as well which I think might also be made be Said and his father.

@Said.ALTINAY actually offers extra stems in different colors for his spigots as well.

Nice tip! I can see myself smoking this one!

Barling: Ivory 1812 Rusticated Meerschaum Bent Billiard with Silver (with Pocket Case) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe

Ok, another maybe silly question. What are the pros and cons (if any) of having a pipe that takes a 9mm filter and never using a filter?

Please let us know which one you choose! And yes they are much more expensive these days compared to even last year or so. But they are worth every penny!

D342981C-D405-4208-9447-78B1829FD16B.jpegI have both and can’t say I really prefer one over the other. If you like a super wide open draw get the permanent ones that Altinay uses. If you do go with the screw in push pull stem know that the polyester stems seem to be more trouble than the acrylic ones. The acrylic stems take a different mortise screw in set that’s slightly more open. At least in my experience. If I ever need repairs on my permanent Altinay mortise in the future I’ll be wishing I had the screw in one as I’m sure the permanent ones are somewhat costly to repair. The screw in ones can be had for around $1. If you can find a vintage one with an aluminum tenon those work pretty well. See blurry ass attached picture. They all have their pros and cons.

I got the Altinay and wanted to post images before my first bowl. It definitely checks all the boxes. Thanks for everyone's help.
