Meerschaum cleaning hot water rinse?

Very true. Not a bad shop for the area I am in but I don't think they know much about pipes. They were not aware Peterson had an amber stem line either. I showed them a pic and they said "that isn't real amber lol"

To truly enjoy a pipe you need at least 50 briars , 80 Meerschaums and of course 100 Corncobs to let the other 130 pipes rest . If you don’t , you’re doing something wrong ! But seriously i couldn't find any valid reason to rinse a meerschaum pipe with hot water , just cleaning it with moist paper and pipe cleaner is way enough IMHO , never got any funky smell but lakeland essence in my beloved meer that i smoke at least 700 bowls in it .. Thanks for the old thread guys! I just tried this out on my Tekin pipe. The first thing it’s had resembling a deep cleaning in almost 700 bowls. I didn’t have hardly any gunk come out of the pipe which is a good sign.

They need to be cleaned in some way...

Unless youre working through a rotation of 200 pipes.

I cleaned my only meerschaum last month after over 20 years of storage without any ill effects. If its good block meerschaum should not hurt IMO.
