It's a nice experiment that may yield some results though I must confess I am rather skeptical.
Skeptical of what?

All I know is the meerschaum pipes tend to color more, where there is no contact with the tobacco directly. So in theory this should color more? Lol

I started a Meerschaum coloring experiment a few months ago to see how a cigar holder would color. My hypothesis was it would color more vivid and quickly because of two reasons

1. The carbon cake in the chamber of a pipe hampers in the coloring
2. The amount of tobacco smoked in a cigar is way more than a pipe, so more
tar and other chemicals which will help color faster

The maximum number of cigars I have smoked through one of these is 37. The one I am using today has been only used 11 times but it gets to smoke big fat cigars

The tiny one does not see much use and have been used only 4 times.

All seem to be picking up some good color, even the ones you haven't smoked much!

Another question: so much of cigar smoking for me is the taste on my lips, how does using one of these change the experience?

Do you find they alter the taste at all? Also I guess they only fit a specific diameter?
When they were new I thought it felt a little stronger smoking through a holder, but now I don’t see a difference.

The exception is infused cigars. I have assumed that you need to lick the tip of an infused cigar so never tried with a holder.

Yes, there is a perfect diameter which will fit perfectly snug. They are conical so they can fit other diameters. That is why they are so fiddly 😀

Looks like they've begun to pick up a little color. But the fact that you're finding them "fiddly" to mess with is a definite mark against. Fun experiment, though.
