I have been desiring a Johs giant for sometime now. Not just any Johs giant but the biggest one Johs makes. The only part about it I planned to do after buying one was to send it off to be eventually fitted with a churchwarden stem piece about 10" long.
Today I thought about it and read more about the custom Meer work that storient is making. I decided to send an email (here it is) to see what his thoughts were on the subject.
--- Good day Storient,
Here are the pictures with dimensions as requested. The only other addition I would want is that the stem be a churchwarden as opposed to a short stem.
See links -
This style bowl and shank - http://www.thebriarpipe.com/?page_id=3&shopp_pid=295
This style stem on the pipe - http://www.pipetobacco.com/churchwarden-pipes/churchwarden-red-no-03.html
Nothing fancy for design just a big bowl but the dimensions are really what I am after.
Thank you in advance for your efforts,
John

I am just absolutely giddy thinking that I will have my dream pipe made by one person, that will never get overly hot, will be lighter than briar and smoke like a dream (I hope). I am hoping to get more dialogue going with Storient before making a down-payment just to be sure we are seeing eye to eye on the design. But nothing fancy as you can see with the Johs it's a size thing and simple design I am after but the smooth bent stem would look so exotic on such a massive bowl and I just know it will smoke like a dream for me. Anyone else thinking about something like this for themselves. lol :)

It will. I talk to Yavuz all the time. He has a great many new things coming to his website in the near future. Everyone should be on the lookout.

I cannot say I am put off by my experience thus far but I am amazed I guess at how I keep getting email with a simple 4 word sentence but he is basically saying it no problem to make the dream pipe for me. I guess I am just shocked as the Johs cost is almost the same as what Storient wants to charge me! Sounds too good to be true. I am now looking at the color of stem, shank design and by golly what about that bowl? I mean a Johs giant itself is a monster and design to hold in awe (in my opinion) but now I am wondering if they can carve something interesting into the bowl for some extra money. I figure it would be better than a tattoo in my book!
I am seriously just amazed at the thought of having something like this that will not get hot and would be so easy to maintain. It would also be my first Meer and I have never tried one yet. I have heard so many good things I wonder why others intend to still smoke Briar except for the look and novelty of it all. I do love the Nording giants, my briar churchwardens but this pipe from Storient may possibly be the last pipe I ever buy until it breaks.
Has anyone here ordered a custom Storient pipe???

I won my storient meer in a contest on the forum. It is a great pipe. The bowl doesn't get hot. I smoked 3 straight bowls in it and it barely got warm. To clean you just wipe the bowl with a dry paper towel. No liquid should get in it. The stem you can clean like you normally would. Meers don't require cake.
Briars are just different. I don't think there is any more up keep to the meers, just different care. They are however more fragile.

Wow, all good news. I honestly plan (since winter is coming) to actually wear gloves while smoking my meer. I like gloves anyways. But the best part is I am getting a design I have actually been lusting after for sometime now and had no idea how it would come about. I figured if I could find a custom pipe maker it would be cost prohibitive but in this case Storient is only charging 20 bucks more than I would pay for the Johs Giant anyway plus I get the churchwarden stem, in blue marble with a square shank (more strength)!
I can honestly say this is exciting for me. I also just got a call from Milan pipe who says they are putting a call into Nording for me and 4 other customers who are demanding 2" deep or deeper, 1" diameter giant sitters in the rusticated collection, freehand series. I have two of them and they are a dream at home. One of them that is coming will be me driving around pipe as it is thin walled but 2" deep by 1" dia. The gal I talked to (Renee) said that they should get a response tonight or Monday from Nording. But if you have not looked yet be prepared to go crazy at the Nording Freehand prices they offer but be aware that they are seeking requests to bolster the support of the owner to buy the giants some of us are requesting.

Yavuz really does a great job. He really cares about his customers. I would never buy a new meerschaum from anyone else. I'm pretty sure he would even give you a refund if your weren't happy.

Here is a pic of the one I won.

Wow, with a freakin' custom case to boot...How cool is that?!!?!? I like the texture they put on that pipe and the artful cut of the bowl. I am eager to see what it is like owning one of these cool smokers. Maybe it will give my Briar Giants a run for thee money!

Be warned those of you seeking a custom Meer pipe of your own. The stem choice adds a chunk of money to the total bill if you choose anything other than black or a plain color. I wanted the blue white marble pattern they show on the company website and that adds 30 bucks to the total cost!

I haven't smoked it because of wisdom teeth problems. I will be smoking it like crazy in 2 weeks. Plus that picture is from when I first got it.
That lucite stuff is pricey. Especially with it being a churchwarden.

I may save up and spring for it anyway! I can't think of a more sexy looking HUGE white pipe than a blue white marbled stem (especially being a churchwarden). Plus it will look pretty dam unique (don't cha think?)...
You can be sure that a ton of pics will be posted the day I get that pipe!

Thanks Steve - You know I will. I am hoping it will be not only a real beauty but the biggest dam meer around. Did you see the specs on the JOHS GIANT I am trying to get Sotrient to clone? Then add a churchwarden 10" stem to it. Oh yeah I am sure it will be a fine, quality smoking utensil!

I'm excited for you John. I could immediately tell my storient was better meerschaum by the look of it. Also the craftsmanship was much better than my other meers.
