I just got into my hotel after spending a few hours and a few bowls there!! Great guys and the Red Ribbon and Murdock's Pipe blends are fantastic... Took home 2 tins of each for the cellar. Hoping to get back there tomorrow before my flight out in the evening..... :D

McCranies is my favorite etailer. I rate Red Ribbon 1983 as my #1 smoke, just barely ahead of FVF.

Sorta sounds like somebody found a big stash, doesn't it? Those old GBDs are supposed to be pretty nice pipes.

After seeing a post from Al on McCranies, I went to their website and ordered several blends. So far all I've tried is the Southern Cream - but it was a great smoke. What wonderful people to do business with! Glad to see that other people appreciate them.

I've never had the opportunity to visit their stores so thanks for posting the photos and story Kevin. I do know the McCranie's though from the pipe shows that they attend and support. Wonderful folks to do business with, and they are True Tobacconists, experts in all aspects of pipes, tobacco, blending, and cigars. I commend them on being the retailer from whom I purchased my first Ashton Magnum pipe. I wish I lived in the area to spend time at their shop, it looks like a wonderful place to socialize and acquire anything in the line of pipes and tobaccos that our hearts desire.

I will again sing their praises. I have three blends of theirs in my rotation. All are in the "always or almost always open" category.

I bought a GBD as discussed above. I learned about them from Al when he discussed them in another posting. The store is very nice to deal with. Very helpful, knowledgeable and professional.

I'm scratching my head and trying to figure out why I didn't order some Red Ribbon when I bought that GBD pipe....
I had not read Kevin's spread on McCranies from 2010, what a great looking shop!

The Cornelius store, 1 block from my house.
You lucky dog...On second thought, perhaps its best I can't just walk down to a great B&M any time I want - I'd be broke!

North Carolina is happening with pipes. In addition to McCranie's, we have Dr. Grabow's factory in Sparta, N.C.;

Cornell & Diehl's tobacco in Morganton; pipe shops in Wilmington and Asheville; and two pipe shops in the

capitol of Raleigh, Tinder Box at Crabtree Valley Mall on Glenwood Avenue, and Pipes By George on Hillsborough

Street near the NCSU campus, plus the Triangle Area Pipe Show (TAPS) in April at the Fairgrounds on Blue Ridge Road.

There's more, but being so humble about my state, I'll stop here.
