I can sum it up by saying ALL MC blends are fantastic , they know their Virginia bacci ;-)
I have never had one I didn't like; Blackwood flake, the froggies,
Wilderness, Tudor castle, St James Woods, Bombay extra...the list goes
I generally enjoy McClelland's blends. Their Virginias are very good indeed. I currently have a tin of Va 22 open, and it is quite tasty.
They also do some decent latakia blends. I have a tin of Blue Mountain open now, which is a very good full Balkan.
Unlike most of the folks on this board, I do not care for Frog Morton. I tried two, didn't care for either one, and stopped there.
Their blends are all top quality - it's just finding blends that are to your taste. ::
I had smoked pipes off and on for few years (mostly aeros) and Blue Mountain was definitely one of my first a-ha moments that got me serious with pipes and pipe tobaccos.
The only McClelland blend I tried that I did NOT care for was the 221B: Black Shag. Gave me awful mouth scorch for some reason. But all the others I have tried: Frog Morton, Navy Cavendsih, Mellow Mack, were all fantastic. I have a bunch of tins sitting in the cellar that I have yet to open but I look forward to opening them.
I got my first taste of a McClelland blend a few days ago. It was their Navy Cavendish from the Matured Virginias series. Oh man oh man, it sure is good. If the rest of their blends are quality like this, they've got a new fan.
If you like Latakia blends British Woods is good though I like the Frog Morton series a bit better.#2045 is a bulk blend that I like very much. It's similar to frog morton.I haven't tried any of them but McClelland also has aromatic blends.
Love Blue Mountain, Love the Frog Morton series, and have tried a their bulk #2000 and I also enjoyed that quite a bit. As I understand, it is a virginia matured cake, but there has to be some flavoring added. I haven't had a thing from McClelland that I disliked.
I am fond of the MCClelland Christmas Cheer blends. They are straight Virginia tobaccos, very good in a dedicated pipe. I also like their Blue Mountain Balkan, and Caramel Rush Aromatic.
I agree with the others in that I've not found one I didn't like. I recently got a sample of their Tastemaster Premium Aromatic, and dang is it good! Strong chocolate flavor from this one that's really nice.
Add No. 24 to the growing list of outstanding McC blends in this thread. I just opened a tin dated from 2006 today and I am in Virginia heaven. McClelland are masters of the virginia flake, IMHO.
