Has anyone ever smoked a bad McClelland? I just noticed that this brand makes up 90% of my arsenal and I couldn't be more pleased. My newest favorite? Syrian Super Balkan.

I'm a McClelland's man too. I've yet to find a blend that I didn't at least appreciate from them.

I just did a quick count of the McClelland blends stocked by P&C.com and it came to 92 different tinned blends (counting blenders), and 70 bulks. In addition I happen to know of one private label blend they make for Julius Vesz, so I figure they probably do many more I'm just not aware of. Amazing company!
ps. That figure of 92 does not include differently sized tins.

Oh, without a doubt! Frog Morton is just TERRIBLE.
That's why I just stocked up on more Frog Morton. And that's why I am smoking On The Bayou right now. Just horrible, terrible pipe tobacco. Terrible.
Bwahahaha.

My sentiments exactly Rondyr. On the Town was the first tobac that made me go, "Wow! This is what it's s'posed to taste like!"

I have to say I have not smoke one of their blends that I did not enjoy. Frogmorton and Serie 221-b's have become my favorites.

I love most of the stuff from McClelland. Bombay Court, 3 Oaks Syrian, Christmas Cheer, Beacon, From Morton, etc. are absolutely OUTSTANDING tobacco blends, way above average, and top quality.
However, a single McClelland blend exists that I'd consider among the most disgusting tobaccos I own. Syrian Super Balkan. I love Oriental and Balkan blends across the board, but that stuff just makes me barf.

Mike,
For the record, Dark Star is one of McClellands most popular blends. Their best selling Virginia tobacco is Blackwoods Flake.

I've several McClelland VaPer blends and enjoy them all. What's amazing to me is the sheer diversity of their product line. They make an awful lot if blends of every variety.

Cortezattic any idea which Julies Vesz blend? I used to really like L12 from him. It's an english blend but I don't get into the city much these days.

My line-up includes 2 tins of Holiday Spirit 2011 (one to cellar), St James Woods, Beacon Extra, and Bayou Sliced. I would like to try some of their orientals.
In fact I have some St James Woods rubbed out and drying for a smoke later this evening.

when I pop a tin, that unique McClelland "ketchup smell" reassures me that I am about to enjoy what is arguably some of the best virginia tobacco anywhere.
Yep!

Glad to know my taster isn't that far out of sync with the world at large.
I think Dark Star is the pinnacle of stoved Virginias, and I've been surprised that it gets so little attention here (as do stoved Virginias in general). A search revealed that it has been mentioned frequently, but I'm surprised that it isn't part of every thread on great flakes. It is truly a superlative flake.

I've only tried two of their blends, both from the From Morton line. I've got a tin of Frog Morton Cellar in the cellar, and a tin of Captain Cool on the way. But I love the two I've tried, and plan to try more.
