cortezattic: Calmar Nyckel is a shag that's been around for ages (70 years I think) in Sweden and is still pretty widely available (but you probably can't find it outside of Sweden). It was made by Svenska Tobaksmonopolet (Swedish Tobacco Monopoly), then by Svenska Tobaks (Swedish Tobacco) which turned into Swedish Match. That division of Swedish Match was then sold to Austria Tabak that was then bought by Gallaher Group. In 2007 Gallaher Group was bought by JTI (Japan Tobacco International) and as far as I know is still owned by them, although there is absolutely no information from them regarding Calmar Nyckel to be found. It's had a hell of a ride during it's 70 years, hehe.
It's a pretty sweet blend with a delicious kind of spicy/smoky note to it, it smells wonderful and taste good but reminds me very slightly of cigarettes, although surprisingly not in a bad way (I'm in no way a cigarette fan, so it's not that). I'd say it contains virginia and latakia or some kind of other oriental, and from Googling the consensus seem to be that it's a virginia/burley/latakia mixture. It's pretty shallow but I enjoy smoking it in my clay as I feel it brings out the taste in it quite well somehow, I smoke it particularly often when I'm cleaning or cooking as I don't need to pay much attention to it but can just puff away.
Right now not smoking anything, but I gave Grousemoor a second try earlier today (I really disliked it the first time) while taking an hour-long walk by the sea in the sunshine. It was a bit drier this time around (last time I had just received and opened the tin) and although it still made the inside of my mouth feel like it was coated with something (much like SG Chocolate Flake) the taste was a bit better and not as overwhelming. Still far from a favourite aromatic for me, but I'll keep trying it every now and then.
