A lot of this is very subjective - like most things about pipesmoking!
Couldn't have said it better! But while on the subject, let me say that there is absolutely zero relationship between how blends smoke and in what pipe. Zero/bupkus/nothing/nada/zilch!

But getting back to reality, if you have a stellar bowl, try to remember the technique that produced it. I think it much more likely to be technique, how much you paid attention to smoking that bowl well, consciously and fully.

The God's of great blends are a capricious lot. I know they saw you get that pipe and said "stupid mortal". It's just how they are.
Yeah, that one got canned a year or two prior to McClelland's closing. Lack of Syrian latakia made it impossible to continue its production.

honestly that's their one blend I feel sad about missing. I have never tried any of their others and they sound good. Frog sounds good and their reds sound nice. But they all fall into the category of whatever, there are so many good blends out there I can enjoy. That one just really gave me the vibe of something unique and hitting a very specific bullseye. Oh well I can always pretend it was shit :)

I ordered a thin of Peterson Balkin Mixture yesterday to smoke in the new Peterson Derry Rustic 408. It will not be a dedicated blend of course, but I wanted a Peterson blend to experience.

I started out thinking this one for Virginias, this one for aromatics, etc. Then I got too many pipes to keep track without writing things down. And then I found too many blends that defy genres. And then I figured out that the cut of tobacco works differently in different sized/shaped bowls. And it's a real mess!

So now I have a couple dedicated to Virginias and vapers. A couple just for aromatics, with 2 just for Lakeland essences round out my dedication collection. Oh, and a gift from an old codger gets only codger smokes in it. Everything else is for everything else with no rhyme or reason. Just which pipe do I feel like loading with which tobacco. I figure if the combination pleases the tobacco gods, they'll let me know as quickly and unequivocally as they tell me they're displeased.
