I bought these two new Italian pipes from McCranies pipe shop in Charlotte for just under $200 each, which is in my comfort zone for pipes I’m going to smoke, and not just collect.

Has anyone else owned a Mastro Geppetto pipe? I plan on starting the break in this weekend. Thanks.

Being that it’s a Ser Jacopo brand it’s an outstanding pipe. You really can’t
Go wrong with them and I have never heard anyone of merit complain about their quality.
I’m confident you made a sound purchase and will enjoy both for many years and receive a few compliments along the way.
I hope you enjoy them.

I am a Ser Jacopo fanatic and have kicked myself a few times when a MG catches my eye and I don't pull the trigger. One thing I love about the SJ's is the wide open draw and the no matter how bent pipe cleaner pass drilling. Would any who own both say that these features are comparable if not the same?

From the website of America’s oldest pipe shop, Iwan Ries & Co.:

Mastro Geppetto smooth and textured pipes were created by Guidi as an affordable alternative to Ser Jacopo pipes, but there are far more similarities between the two brands than differences. For example, both are handmade by Ser Jacopo's craftsmen using carefully aged Extra Extra (XX) grade Italian briar and the time taken to produce them are virtually identical. Also, stems are hand cut from rod plexiglass (AKA acrylic) for both lines. The two main cost-saving differences lay in the briar and draft hole ~ only Plateaux briar is used to produce Ser Jacopo pipes and the draft holes are drilled with a special flexible drill.”

I actually prefer my Geppetto (I always forget if that’s one “p” or two) to Ser Jacopo. Jacopo’s have too much going on and are always huge. My Geppetto’s are from eBay seller who was once a dealer so they are like NOS. The ones I have are perhaps the best rustication I’ve ever seen, rivaling Castello sea rock. They also have very smooth stem to shank connection. They smoke great. I can’t speak for the new ones. My guess is there were some great pipe makers at Jacopo who made these.
