This was a well used pipe! Formerly leather covered, cracked shank, and the stem was chewed shut.
I heated the stem to try and raise the tooth dents and had to push a rod down it to open it up. I then used CA to even it out.
The stummel soaked for days in cotton balls and alcohol, then I reamed it and sanded to bare briar
I put CA in the cracked shank and clamped it overnight.
Sanded the bowl with 320 grit paper but since it was covered with leather the briar was not well figured so I used my Dremel and a ball cutter to rusticate it. To cover the cracked shank I put a nickel band, stained and waxed it.

Looking at that picture, I would never have guessed it ever required that much attention to get it looking that good. You did an outstanding job. It is a really nice looking pipe!

Appreciate it! This was the most I've ever put into a pipe. I looked at it as a challenge and wanted to see how far I could go with it.

Looks good.

I can only think of one "better" and one "differently"...

The Better is fade the texture up to the edge of the band, to eliminate the smooth wood.

And the Differently is G-Flex on the stem instead of CA. (G-Flex won't flake when used on rubber, but CA will)

It looks awesome! I’d have never guessed that much was done.

I’m a hack with no buffing equipment, and too lazy to get perfect shine with my “Armstrong” polisher, but I did follow @georged’s advice and invested in a 1oz tube of g-flex 655 epoxy and Sytstem Three epoxy pigment for stem repairs/build ups. I’ve gotten better results, and a better mouth-feel with it than straight CA. It’s got a little flex at the molecular level.

Thanks all for the the feedback! I actually thought about the fade After I'd put the band on and stippled the stem! Then it was too late!
Appreciate the tip about Gflex as well. I'll need to pickup some.
I've discovered that every pipe is a learning curve and I'm kinda new at refurbishing them but it's kinda addictive!

Not George, but it’s as food safe as CA is I’m sure. Neither is in their uncured state, I’m 100% sure.
