Once again more proof that there are more horses asses than there are horses in the world.

"...Won't somebody pleeeeeeeeze think of the children?? Who cares about your stupid "rights"?
Satire, folks. Calm down.
Fair play to Ms Tobin for obviating her parental responsibilities and passing them to Ms Swedberg, I say
Oldreddog wins "Insight Of The Month" Good catch.
My guess is that this health board will not bow to the peasants with the pitchforks and torches, and approve the ban. My next assumption is that there will be a court injunction, then the issue will go to a ballot referendum, and lose. Board of Health Chair Andrea Crete will then be given a job at the FDA, overseeing the implementation of the new anti-tobacco regulations.

I beg to gently dissent with an observation that runs through this thread. It's not about controlling others; This is about people finding life much easier if they do not have to make decisions. Many find life much easier if all decisions are made for them. Thinking for myself is soooooo hard!
So many simply want to delegate their decision making to others. Unfortunately there are many willing to take on that job. A large percentage of our population will willingly cede part of life to these people and will be happy to have done so. It is so much easier to leave such things as parenting to others. Mummy and daddy don't want to be bothered with the actually raising of their children. They want to be their child's best friend!

Good points, Warren. I've seen this trend in other local gubbermint related matters -- many people my age and younger (I'm in my 30s) simply don't have the desire to make their own decisions. They really would rather defer to authorities. Mind you, this isn't universal (obviously), but it is a trend among portions of a certain age group.

Good the locals raised a ruckus about having their local government stage-direct a small detail of their lives.

The inclination to run others' lives is a powerful addiction, not easily treated once made a habit. There's no

methadone clinic for grasping overreach.

True, but there are ALWAYS control freaks waiting in the wings and ready to make decisions for them.

It's about both. These 2 types are locked in a co-dependent death spiral, and they want to take the rest of us down with them.

Heh, I think the guy holding the "What Next" sign in the picture is Stephen Helfer, a smoker's rights activist based in I believe Cambridge. Talked to him a few times, cool guy.
