For ribbon cut, I multiply by 4. So an 8oz jar for 2oz of tobacco, etc. For flakes, I multiply by 2. I like those little 4oz jelly jars for 2oz of flake after snipping them in half. Escudo I can just stack up the coins and it works out perfectly.

Next time I buy 4oz of bulk flake, I plan to lay an 8oz jar on its side so I can stick them all in there nicely without cutting. 😎

Here are the 2 best mason jar types and sizes that I use exclusively. Unfortunately, both are hard to find sometimes. Both are made by Ball. Both are wide mouth so it is easier to get your tobacco in and out. Due to the perfect size for the amount of tobacco, they take up the least amount of space in your cellar.

I use this 16oz wide mouth for any 2oz tin of ribbon cut or loose flake blends.

I use this 8oz wide mouth for flakes and plugs.

I prefer the half pint size. It holds 3-4oz of tobacco, and if you think ahead, it makes the most sense. Knowing that aged (20+ years old) tends to oxidize and turn to shit fast, you really don’t want to have more than you can smoke in a month or so open. If that doesn’t matter to you, then fine.

But, my experience is that aged tobacco has deteriorated the cell walls of the tobacco, so that once exposed to air, it loses a lot of flavor and crumbles easily after a month or so… depending on what the blend is.

So, half pints work the best for me. YMMV.

I prefer wide-mouth 1/2 pint jars for everything. However, I am about to convert to mylar for everything I have been storing for more than a few years.
