Wash jars before using.

Use rings indefinitely.

Tops, variable.

Long-term, new top

Short-term, depends on how used up the rubber is.

In the re-using camp, but now that I have read more responses, I gotta admit I'm not doing any long term cellaring. I use mason jars a lot for blending (whole leaf) and tinkering. I usually smoke whatever my current smoke is right out of a mason jar. However, I could definitely see using a fresh lid for something I was going to put up for years.

I never thought about this. I just re-use my lids, but my jarred up tobacco isn't for long term aging. Anything in a mason jar is in my current rotation. Once a jar is empty, I will use the jar/lid again with a similar blend. I haven't noticed any issues yet.

I think just so long as none of the parts are compromised in any way then reusing them shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure that no particles of tobacco are on the top of the jar when sealing up.

Jay.
