Ditto Herbinedave. If you're gonna stock up in the face of rising taxes,

and legislation prohibiting flavored tobacco, then do it safely. :puffpipe:

I recycle empty Middleton tubs, which are formally called Sta-Fresh Canisters. When I was blending, I had roughly 150 in total. Now I'm down to maybe 35-50, and have never had any problems with them. Just make sure they have the notched dome lid.

You can buy a few mason jars at your local Hobby Lobby art store. Few weeks ago they were 50% off, but if you missed the sale you can always download and print their coupon that has 40% off any regular priced item.

To invest in mason jars that I know will protect the tobacco is the way to go.

+1 herbinedave & cortezattic
It's like buying a $3000 custom rifle and sticking it in a $25 cloth case. You just don't wanna do that.

Huh? Mason jars are made of glass and are hermetically sealable. That's why they can hold a partial vacuum.

Alright, here's my Martha Stewart tip:
Paint a small square on the front of the jar(mason or other) with Chalk Board Paint ($14/quart at lowes).

Write the Baccy type and date on the front, to recycle simply wipe off and rewrite.
I also use the for many different types of bitters I make........
1 quart last forever. Tape off a square with tape.

The day I dropped $100 on a tobacco order is the same day I got a case of 12 mason jars from the local grocery store set me back maybe $10. Well worth it to open up Penz from 5 years ago and it taste better.

I have some smaller glass jars with a push on type lid with rubber seal that I got from Walmart. They are about $3 each and really only big enough to hold about 2oz. Make sure to check the fit though; being Walmart some of them are so loose it is stupid.

Grizzly, jars like that may be okay for the short term, but I wouldn't trust them for long term storage.

@zanthal...I think you just need to NOT go to a speciality store. Up here they are $11.98 dozen at Canadian Tire store and at the grocery store they have them same price.

I forget what state your in but just go to a major supermarket / grocery store in canning section.

@xray These small jars I was talking about only hold a tins worth so I use them on tobaccos I haven't tried yet. My larger quantities and the ones I am aging go in mason jars.

I use the same jars that grizzly mentioned for the baccys that are in my rotation. +1 on checking the fit. They work great for short term, but if it's in the cellar it's in a mason jar.

Im a gradener and jelly maker and a bee keeper (all as a hobby). Anyways I use alot of mason jars. I most always find them at garage sales for next to nothing. I buy them normally for 2 or 3 dollars a case and store them until I need them. Garage sales are awesome.

I've got all of the blends I smoke regularly in mason jars, but I have too many recent acquisitions sitting in ziploc bags, waiting for my wallet to become less empty so I can put them in proper storage.
Candle jars, and jelly jars are substitutes I would not have thought of, thanks cortezattic and cajunguy ... and xray that's a great link thank you.
I'm still not sure if my dollar store has any glass containers that seal properly (but I'm going to have another look) ... and as far as going to a Big Y-Ball Mason Jar store, I am situated in the middle of a suburban yuppie demographic. Sensible prices for sensible things are not easy to come by, unless you like to dress yourself at Old Navy or The Gap.

Mostly mason jars for me but I do find the larger Yankee Candle Jars work well for short term storage and hold about 4-5 ounces quite nicely for frequently smoked tobacco.
@zanthal: I found what I believe are the same oval Avery printable labels you show in your picture and look forward to getting them on all my jars when I have time.
Happy Trails
