Hello there, I saw a Mark Twain Peterson set from 2010 on eBay. I'm thinking of bidding on it but I am wondering what a fair price would be. It's up to about $500 now. Would this set be worth $600 you think or more? I'm not opposed to paying more for a nice pipe, and a bit more for a set. I'm wondering what I should bid in order to secure it. I am also aware of the fact that by posting this, I might be drawing attention to the bid, and that's ok. If I get outbid for it, no problem. Thanks!

The second pipe is a gem, a straight Poker which was carved to resemble the Corncob pipe that Huck Finn smoked! It sports a tall almost cylindrical bowl with thick walls surrounding a relatively modest chamber yet still affords healthy capacity.

Seriously though, you are going to have to figure out what it's worth to you, and how much you are willing to spend. Auctions, especially ebay auctions, are notoriously unpredictable, and prices realized fluctuate wildly.

“The Mark Twain Collection” is definitely interesting marketing. Personally, I’d not be a bidder on this as it’s not my flavor. I’m having a trouble figuring out what makes them a Twain collection accept for Peterson’s trying to mimic a cob with the poker? Maybe I’m missing something? Do you have any idea what these went for new? ?
I have a handful of Peterson’s that I favor. However, I’ve just never come across one that I’d spend that kind of ? on. But, if Peterson’s are your thing have at it. ?

I don't know sadly what is was when it came out. That's what I was hoping to find out here. I think it's supposed to be the type of pipe Mark Twain smoked. There's some pictures of him smoking with one of those types of pipes. The other one I guess commemorates Huck Finn or something from Tom Sawyer. For some…not you…it’s self promotion and a way to gain traffic to their effort. Otherwise, comments could steer traffic away from a listing possibly posted by a forum member based on comments here. That’d not be a good thing either.

I just wanted to know what I would need to put down in order to get that item and if it was worth it.
I saw that set as well. As previously mentioned, you have to make a realistic decision about the pipes specific value to you. Nobody else can answer that question.
I don't like to fiddle with watching auctions or dealing with last minute vultures so when I'm on eBay I set a max-bid. Sometimes that strategy works, sometimes it doesn't. However, if it was a pipe I really wanted or had been hunting, I'd bid high. Just my .02 YMMV.

Oh thanks! I see the price there. That's what I was hoping to find to see if it's worth it or not. I think it's an awesome set but not if I have to spend a ton on it.

Yep. Did that yesterday and lost out on one that I put in a max bid that was higher than I should have, but totally forgot about until well after the auction and then I had the usual collection of emails from eBay asking for a bigger bid, giving me the "bad news" and advising of other things I might want to buy, lol. Set it and forget it works best here.
I got this set a little over a year ago from a forum member here. The poker was smoked but the deluxe system wasn't. Only $100, quite a bargain for which I am forever thankful. I don't think they sold new for more than $250, so it's rather shocking to see the price of the one on eBay. Yes the smooth finish might be more desirable, and they are unsmoked, so only you can decide if they're worth it.
