You newbies have to realize that it usually takes time to develop technique and palate.

What you enjoy initially usually changes and what you don't (as for blends or varietals) also changes with repetition while your buds awaken to the particular blend at hand. It can take time to appreciate but the bottom line is that pure tobacco taste is the essence of any tobacco blend. One bowl isn't sufficient to make a value judgement, again, usually. :puffpipe:

frankrem, just a nomenclature prompt from one of your earlier posts. A bulk order in "tobacco talk" refers to tobacco you buy in a baggie in any quantity you select, one ounce or more in one-ounce increments. It's a good inexpensive way to buy tobacco, and a good way to sample in small, one or two ounce quantities. At this point, if I were you, I wouldn't get more than two ounces, whether in a tin or pouch or bulk. So I agree you don't want to buy in quantity. Range around for a year or two and find what you like. Just buy some canning jars to store your blends bought in bulk, or from open tins or pouches that you are smoking slowly.

Thanks MSO489 - That is why I bought the 2oz quantities because of your earlier advise. I have just about finished my first 2oz of Captain Black Royal. I can see myself buying more of that in the future. I do plan to spend this first year or more just exploring all that there is out there. I also went and bought about 20 - 4oz canning jars to store anything that I might not love after the first 4-5 bowls. That way I can go back and try them again from time to time.
Newbroom - I agree I am trying to at least get through 2oz of anything I try to see what my general opinion is of any given blend right now. Trying to take this slow and see where each bowl takes me.

Well just smoked my second bowl of seattle pipe club plumb pudding. Such a huge difference between it and what I have tried so far. Not sure how to best describe it. Deeper perhaps darker flavor. The spice from the perique very interesting. Seems a heavier smoke than I have had previously. I have enjoyed the two bowls I have had so far. Going to smoke several more bowls before I give my final opinion. However so far I'm really enjoying the contrast between the captain black royal and this one. Captain black seems a lot lighter and this plumb pudding so much richer. I'm starting to understand how each tobacco blend can have it's own unique personality.
