I'd call that orange thing a beach cover; I don't wear beach covers. I think that goes better with guys under forty, or maybe not anyone.

Then there was the mob boss who was notorious for walking around Greenwich Village in his bathrobe feigning madness as a cover for his running a big crime family. It worked pretty well for years.

Damn, BROB, you're right! Proof positive. I think it's the wool Black Watch plaid.
what's the hat?? I've been wondering hard.

I have a nice flannel one that i wear on weekends around the house getting coffee or making pancakes. I will wear it in the backyard on nice morning days to puff my pipe but never out in public.

Don’t have any robes. When it’s cold enough, I wear just a Henley and sweatpants. Colder, then it’s a guernsey sweater and flannel drawstring pants.
Warm weather, ah...then it’s just me in only my briefs (of various dark colors mind you).

The hat in my avatar was picked up for me in Istanbul by my sister who travels a lot. I think it is common wear in Turkey, but in the West, similar hats or maybe the same ones are sold as smoking caps to go with smoking jackets, so its a kind of coincidence or zen or something. I'm a hat collector, so it was an appropriate gift. The family humor was to assume some preposterous attire, paste a Christmas bow to your forehead, etc., and then look all very routine and blasé wearing it.
