Hello all, first time posting so I hope I'm doing this right. Let me start off by saying I'm a long time lurker and have thoroughly enjoyed learning all there is to be had on here.
OK, so I have started delving into the wonderful world of pipe crafting and am at the point with my first pipe when its time to sand and stain. For anyone out there who has any preferences of stain should I use a leather dye or should I go with a aniline variety, water or alcohol soluble?
Any info or preference from everyone would be appreciated.

Greetings and welcome to the forums. I've got no experience or preferences in this area, but I wanted to bump this thread because they've been scrolling off the boards pretty quickly of late.

What I heard from several pipe makers is that Fiebings Leather Dye works really well for pipes, I have seen youtube videos of the end result and some have been stunning. My favorite are the contrast finishes you get from using two colors like black and then red. Here's an Amazon link to buy it, it also has a full color char on it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiebings-Leather-Dye-w-Applicator-28-COLORS-4-OZ-/230558390846
Here's a video on contrast-staining a pipe using a black/red stain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD0Sy7mx4qY

Welcome Kinny! You must give us PICS! It's required.
A state law in California actually.

For this one I'm just going to go straight sanding then staining, I just need some experience in staining so no rustication this time. I've shaped it a little bit more since the last pic. I'll definitely post some more pics later. Thanks everyone!
