No, I am not kidding you. It really does a great job! It cuts right through glue, paint, tar, et.
Yes, it vaporizes quickly but no faster than Everclear Alcohol.
Yes, you do not want to inhale the vapors, it can give you a buzz!
That's just kinda strange my friend. I use acetone on my glass pipes and dab rigs, the glass art is just as beautiful to me as briar, so I keep my glass but cleaning it is hard, the acetone takes it right off. I can see it cleaning a briar pipe too good, as in damaging the interiorof the shank. But I'm not gonna say either way. It sounds like it works for you and that's all that matters.

Cheap whiskey has been doing a great job keeping my all of my pipes clean and tasting great. Any standard 40% bottom shelf stuff will work. I suppose stronger stuff may do a better job removing gunk, but I never let them get that dirty.
Booze is also great for swabbing the tenon on a cob to fix a loose-fitting bit. It works better for this purpose than plain water.
