Well @Briar Tuck was kind enough to send me a bunch of cherry pieces to use for my stem. After letting them dry out for a while I finally got around to making the stem today. I used a pre-formed p-lipesque stem and a piece of faux ivory for thread reinforcement. The cork end is reinforced with an aluminum tube to prevent breaking. I gave it coat of boiled linseed oil to give it a bit of an aged appearance. 9426F79F-B9F7-465B-993E-8E6C12FCF46D.jpeg85B31F2A-4886-4747-875C-CB79D98F9954.jpeg263195B3-333F-4189-BB56-FE490547B7A9.jpegF2831C8A-9B91-4B78-8F25-726FEF2E4573.jpeg9BBBEA23-EF6C-4E0D-A869-9D6B84EBBA1B.jpegAB5083CF-BB06-433C-B9EE-B8E1BB82A2CE.jpegA51B8D2D-0BFC-404C-BAA0-028ABECAFEFE.jpegAFE7CC47-6AE4-42DE-8AC1-D849A0A4A53B.jpeg

The cherry still looks so green and fresh. Will it be dry enough for normal use without imparting any vegetal flavour? How long do you think it will take to fully dry out and will that affect the fit much?

It looks great.
I don’t think it’s dry enough to use yet, but being mostly hollow now it will be soon enough. I wanted to work it while it was still somewhat green to prevent splitting. Drying/shrinking won’t affect to fit, the corked end is tenoned and glued into place.

There’s this really cool auction website called eBay with lots on there.
I’ve never bought a tin off eBay, I enjoy the hunt. I’ve bought all of em at antique stores, estate sales, garage sales, etc. the only tins I could see myself buying online would be original ATC Rolly Polly (brownie) tins but they are very collectible and tend to sell for a lot of $$$. They’re normally out of my price range.
