What would you say a molasses topping/casing smells like after having been applied to a tobacco AND THEN pressed?

Took a part several cake/flakes/slices of MR that I got in an 8oz tin and separated every different type of tobacco.
There is the red mixed with an oriental, and then peppered with a little perique and a little more latakia.
I smoked the red component with the stoved VAs taken out and without as much of the latakia as I could take out, and on first light I get the sour taste i was referring to, though also the red cake taste. It's cased/topped with something for sure. Not able to detect what it is yet, but if this tobacco is being made by McClelland, and I have every reason to believe it is (given the tobaccos in it and the fact that SPC's Seattle Evening is blended by McClelland), then I'm thinking the casing is similar to that in McClelland's 5115 blend. I've ordered some of it and should have it this upcoming week to try.
What makes MR unique and appealing, to me, is that sour taste you get immediately and throughout the majority of the bowl.

rubbing MR out fully and letting it dry for around 2 hours and then smoking the red component alone revealed red cake without casing. the citrus sourness on the draw disappeared. the casing evaporated.

Yo tho - a couple of posts back, you said: " but if this tobacco is being made by McClelland, and I have every reason to believe it is (given the tobaccos in it and the fact that SPC's Seattle Evening is blended by McClelland), " - Seattle Evening may indeed be a McClelland manufacture and tinning, but the MR lately has been different. Ever notice that Plum Pudding, MR, etc. are packaged differently? And for awhile PP and MR were available in bulk, but I never saw SE in bulk. I've assumed that lately all of the Seattle PC blends except for Seattle Evening are made and tinned in Richmond.

no idea, but it's made with McClelland tobaccos and i'm assuming the topping is based on something they use.
the topping is alcohol based for sure (can detect alcohol notes in the tin) and it smells like berries, though tastes citrusy. that's a common topping, just need the right person to see this thread and give some input on what it could be and how i can go about making my own topping.
