Leave em there, they're most likely garbage. I bought a couple of cobs that were made in China, weren't fit to smoke.

cobs from China? That's like getting hot dogs and apple pie from China..

Some of those cobs actually come with a hole all the way through the bottom before you smoke them, poor quality indeed. Never get Chinese cobs, they simply do not have access to the strong, wood-like cobs that Missouri Meerschaum uses to make their cobs and it is always a nice thing to get American made these days...
Briarblues does have a point, but we are also talking about Chinese cobs here and I have never heard of high quality Chinese cobs produced by a Chinese carver in a bin at a retailer, that would be a new one to me.
I guess the real question is is it briar, cob, or some other material making up the pipe, maybe you'll be lucky and it's the one shop that sells high grade Chinese pipes, I've never heard of it, but if Mike says it's true...

I asked if they are Sansa because that particular company has a reputation for "non-opitmal" pipes...
That said, there are some decent briar pipes to be had out of China, but the decent ones I've run across so far, are almost universally found coming out of Hong Kong. Buying pipes out of China are a bit like buying one of those Ukrainian pipes - you take a chance - but the success rate is somewhat lower.

Why take a risk when there are great inexpensive pipes from Savnelli or Stanwell or many other mfgs. I would take a look at our sponsors and grab a great pipe from one of them.

The days of China = low quality good are long gone.
I see "G.G." pipes on ebay all the time. I believe they are Chinese made and I also (maybe erroneously) assumed that they were of poor quality. Unfortunately China has a poor rep for many products, some containing lead-based paints and worse.
So when it comes to mass-manufactured Chinese pipes (may not apply to Chinese artisan pipes), I'd rather not take my chances.

I believe the G.G. logo stands for "Golden Gate" Pipes, which are made in Kiev, Ukraine. They are supposedly like the Dr. Grabow of the eastern bloc. The few mentions of them I've run across are generally positive - but I've never tried them myself.

There are some great lower priced Chapuis Comoy pipes on tobaccopipes.com - around the $30 - $50 range, along with some Jobey's reasonably priced. I'd go there before China.

Keep this in mind everyone:

China is a huge market, and all of the major Pipe players have and will always market to the Chinese consumer. Savinelli has I believe at least three retail outlets in China, and although they may not be made in China, the pipe market in China is large. You will find cheaply made pipes from China, there is no doubt, but that is like anything else 'cheaply made'. Be weary of anything that doesn't look like you would want to put in your mouth and you'll be fine. As for the artisan pipes coming from some Chinese makers...they are stunningly beautiful in a time when artisan pipes are just not being produced with the art and care as some other countries. Asians are renowned for taking a concept and improving upon them (the Japanese for example), and I can guarantee that in a few years, they will be producing some amazing quality and looking pipes for the pipe buying market. Want to see what the Pipe market will be like? Look no further than the vintage wine market in China. They are now the number one purchasers of vintage wine coming out of France and spirits (Cognac). You will find that it is the Chinese Market that will dictate the future pipe design, price points, and collect ability of the future.

China makes many wonderful products, and sometimes at incredibly low prices. I'll leave it alone as to

their currency policies, labor laws, etc. However, there have been some difficulties with standards

applied. The worst examples were baby formulas and pet food. I think I want to let China's pipe carvers

earn their reputations before I'm in the market for a pipe made in China. A few artisans in China have made

their mark, and are to be commended. Meantime, we have some unusually good machine made pipes from

this country -- Dr. Grabow and Benton come to mind first. We have many artisans, some in strictly the high

end market, but others in mid-level, that do beautiful work -- Jerry Perry in N.C. comes to mind. I'd like

to look at quality Chinese pipes; I'd want to hear some recommendations and let a few years go by before

I burn any tobacco in one of these pipes.

My local tobacco shop carries a few pipes with black coated metal bowls that are screwed in, with the screw head showing at the bottom of the bowl. I looked at one, and kept on walking. I didn't look at the brand either...

oklansas is correct: "G.G." pipes, standing for "Golden Gate," are indeed made in Ukraine. I have a very beautiful "pot" or "tomato" shape briar from them that is very well made and smokes like a dream. And only $55 (at the time).
Pic below: (needless to say, I removed the stinger).

I have seen some really nice pipes made in China. I would imagine that the Chinese market has its really low-end pipes and high-end pipes just like anywhere else.
